Look up 'Christology' on google and theres been bare disagreements as to who or what he was. The devil didnt own the Earth, he was trying to trick Jesus, thats the whole point of the parrable. The Gospels werent written by 'matthew, mark, luke and john' theyre just the names given to them. And in fairness, the gospels were written 200 years after Jesus died. Prior to that, the stories would have existed through word of mouth so theyre bound to get twisted a bit, but that doesnt mean they dont contain fundamental truths.
