UFC: May event will happen with or without Overeem

LAS VEGAS (AP) - UFC President Dana White says a heavyweight championship fight will take place as scheduled on May 26 with or without Alistair Overeem.

White said Thursday that Junior dos Santos will defend his title in the UFC 146 main event but that it's up to the Nevada Athletic Commission to determine whether Overeem will be the challenger.

Commission executive Keith Kizer says the Dutch kickboxing champion can seek analysis of a second sample from his March 27 urine test.

Kizer said Wednesday that Overeem's first sample tested unacceptably high for testosterone and Overeem will need commission approval to fight Dos Santos as scheduled.

His representatives haven't responded to messages left through his Las Vegas lawyer, David Chesnoff.

Overeem knocked out Brock Lesnar in the first round of UFC 141 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas.

f*ck off Overeem. You knew you were to be RANDOMLY tested THREE times during the year. You'd think keeping your testosterone levels within human limits would apply.

Please no to Cigano vs Mir. No.

I read somewhere that Overeem had already taken the tests that were required for the licence for the Brock fight, which is why it won't be changed to a no contest.

Is there anyway Overeem will be able to fight against Cigano? Such a f*ck*ng shame. Funny how his test results were lower than when Chael got caught though.

After the whole debacle with the testing pre-Brock Lesnar, the Nevada Commission said it will test Overeem three more times randomly before the end of the year.

To get Overeem fighting, his lawyers need to apply for a re-test before a certain date. Apparently there's been no contact made from Alistair's camp, so its not looking good.

I think that he has had those 3 random post fight tests though, at least that's what one article said.

That the UFC are waiting until after the hearing on the 24th gives me some hope that the fight might still happen. When Reem left Golden Glory he must have left behind the guy who administered the roids.

Another win for MVP.

Think thats the 1st time he's ever attempted a submission in his pro career. Still needs to work on his ground game but he's been doing that and he'll improve even more as time goes by.

Can only beat what's in front of him at the moment but definitely one to watch out for as he gains more experience and the level of opposition he faces improves.

Baring the main event, the fight card does seem lacklustre, but there are a few fights which are intriguing to me.

Stephen Thompson vs Matt Brown - Amazing debut performance from Wonderboy Thompson few months back. This fight will be a good one, both guys like to keep it on the feet, I'm expecting Thompson to take it.

Travis Browne vs Chad Griggs - Griggs' first fight in the UFC since the heavyweight's draft from Strikeforce, he looked impressive in his last few. Browne on the other hand, his last fight was awfully dull, but he has great power in his hands. Knockout victory for either fighter is the most likely outcome.

Miguel Torres vs Michael McDonald - Probably Fight of the Night candidate, should be a very technical bantamweight bout. Both guys top 10 bantamweights, so the winner will be knocking on the door of a title shot. Can see McDonald winning this via decision

Rory MacDonald vs Che Mills - British fighter Mills first fight in America. Extremely tough test for him, Rory MacDonald is the best young prospect in MMA today, a future 170lb champion. Cannot see anything other than Rory putting on a completely dominating performance. Should Mills win though, his stock in the UFC will go through the roof.

Jon Jones © vs Rashad Evans - Haven't been this excited for a fight since Diaz vs Condit. Honestly either guy could win this, which makes it so much more interesting. Everyone knows the backstory to this fight, never seen Rashad so emotional for a fight, and rightly so. Jones seems much more relaxed and calm, although against Rashad he will be in places we've never seen him before in the octagon; on his back. Fight will be decided by Jones' abilities on the ground, can he stave off the takedown, get back to his feet without taking major damage should he be on his back. On the other hand, can Rashad manage to stand with the puzzling range of Jones' unorthodox strikes and movements.
