France's President Nicolas Sarkozy has reportedly picked a glamorous TV presenter, best known for appearing in her bikini, to be in his cabinet.Guadaloupe-born Christine Kelly is said to have been picked as minister for overseas territories in the president's next reshuffle.Mrs Kelly, 39, currently works for news channel LCI.As well as being offered the ministerial post, she is set to become the new face of ethnic diversity in France. She quickly became a celebrity figure, admired for her looks as well as her career - she is said to be pictured as often in her bikini as she is in her work outfits.Mr Sarkozy believes Mrs Kelly will add to his "rainbow" government because she is not only attractive but also in touch with the modern world. And she has a huge fan base because of her media appearances. The journalist is no stranger to politics or sport - she has written a book on French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and Arsenal footballer William Gallas. She will fill a gap in government left by Rachida Dati, France's former justice minister who was fired by the president in January as her ministry lurched from crisis to crisis, making her increasingly unpopular with judges and lawyers.Ms Dati surprised France by returning to work just five days after the birth of her child. The 43-year-old was the first Muslim women with North African parents to hold a major ministerial post in France. She has refused to name her daughter's father or dispel rumours that he is a famous public figure.

i think celebrity/politicians (i.e OBAMA) is a good thing, if it's not just all a cover, it introduces a new level of accountability for politicians, and the publics scrutiny will be even more.
true
plus it makes sure that that faces like polly toynbee/anne widdicombe don't dominate politics.
