A gunman has shot dead six people and injured three others at a nursing home in the US state of North Carolina, local media report.A police officer and the gunmen were among those injured in the incident in the town of Carthage, they said. Multiple police units are at the scene.Carthage Police Department Chief Chris McKenzie was quoted as describing the shooter as a "young male".He told local media the gunman walked into the home at 1000 local time.It was not immediately clear what the motive might have been for the shooting at the Pinelake Health and Rehab Center.The facility, about 60 miles (100 km) south-west of Raleigh, has 90 beds and specialises in caring for people with Alzheimer's disease.A woman who answered a telephone call from the BBC News website on Sunday confirmed there had been a shooting at the facility but did not want to give any more information.
