An 82-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly on her way home from a shopping trip in north-west London.Ann Driscoll was found by a neighbour in Fortune Gate Road, Harlesden, at about 1500 BST on Monday.She suffered nine stab wounds to her neck and stomach and police said she was covered in blood. She is said to be in a critical but stable condition.Police are looking for a white man aged 30 to 45. Officers are still trying to establish a motive for the attack.'Early stages'The suspect was described as being about 5ft 9in tall with brown hair. He was wearing brown clothing.A woman who witnessed the aftermath of the attack, but did not give her name, said: "A fellow was with her and people started to gather.Eyewitness: "She said she wanted to see her husband""They wanted to call an ambulance. She said no - she wanted to go and see her husband."A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The investigation is in its early stages and inquiries are ongoing to fully establish the victim's movements."It is believed the Mrs Driscoll was walking in Burns Road, Harlesden, shortly before 1500 BST, when she was attacked.After the assault she staggered to Fortune Gate Road, outside Kier Hardie House, where she was helped by a member of the public.Mrs Driscoll is described as a white woman, about 5ft 2in, with a petite build and grey hair.
