Jodie
The move has seen Virgin fall into line with other major carriers in limiting economy class passengers to only one bag free as the industry tries to recoup money where it can in the face of a continuing industry crisis. Virgin's new limits, which come into force from November 25, will apply on all routes apart from Kenya and Nigeria , where travellers will still be allowed to check in two cases. Under the new rules, economy class passengers will be charged £32 for checking in additional bags on the internet – or £40 if they do so at the airport. The increasing reliance on charging for extras has been underlined by research carried out by IdeaWorks, analysts in America, which has discovered that some major carriers make considerable revenue from imposing levies for "additional" services. Its analysis of the latest airline accounts showed that extras accounted for 19.3 per cent of Ryanair's revenue and 15.5 per cent of easyJet's. Such is the importance of additional charges that the industry has now devised a code for each of the extras, covering everything from priority boarding and seat reservation to on-board amenities such as pillows and blankets. According to IdeaWorks, the range of charges will increase as the industry follows the strategy of Ryanair which "raises consumer expectations for low fares, while lowering expectations for free perks"Someone pls explain why Kenya & Nigeria still get to take two, but everyone else going to major parts of the world only get to take one and charge £40!!The west indian families aint gonna be too happy come late this winter and next summer. They're doing it to recoup the millions they've lost. There have been and still are forced redundancies going on all over the company.VS Nigeria is different from VS Atlantic as well.
