you can turn it off the lock screen notifications, go to 'sound and notifications' in settings

 

tbh switching from iPhone to HTC M8 on Android 4.4, not having notifictions on the lock screen was one of the biggest annoyances

 

 

some of the custom roms allow you to turn off notifications
