You mean you've never understood why a CB is called a centre-half when the name suggests a CM should be?Because in the early footballing days, most teams instead of playing 4-4-2, playedd 2-3-5The two players at the back would be fullbacks, the players infront of them in the middle (who played higher up, more like dmfs, were centre halves), hence the name.Hence fullbacks also being called...full-backs, even though they are required to get up and down the length of the pitch.The formation because redundant as football evolved.
