Bicep Curls

I keep seeing guys at my gym doing bicep curls but instead of lifting away from the body, they're lifting across the body so their forearms skims their stomach and chest. Why? What different way does that work the biceps? I don't get it but I've seen nuff guys doing it.

i do a hammer curls across my body and then them at the top so my hand finishes in a position like a bicep curl across the body, feel the side of bicep come on nicely in just a days
