For a long while I regarded him as unremarkable pop-rock fluff, what I'd heard was fairly inert and overly slick, and it was unhelped by the 'sweetboy guitardude' thing he seems to actively courtPerceptions shifted after I was coaxed into listening to some of his more recent blues stuff, which is actually pretty nice. He's done stints in bands with serious jazz and blues players, and it shows. He's capable of some very compelling playing, despite occasional forays into Clapton or SRV impressionsContinuum and Try! are both good blues joints Most of the stuff before that is not very interesting to me, but check them out too out if you're fiending for a soft-rock/country/acoustic vibe

He was abandoned by most of his respectable fans when he started releasing material for teenage girls.As a musician, I appreciate the following:Unique version of slow dancing in a burning room with some nice licks and technical musicianship. Followed by a very good improvised and adlibbed "i'm gonna find another you"

By his own admission, he's going back into more blues oriented styles. He became a bit of a laughing stock when he started releasing Daughters and sh*t like that, but tbh, if it sells, and I can appreciate the fact he's a very good guitarist, I don't care.
