Ive looked several times, even down to the firmware update but there's nothing there

The "check for update" is in, settings > about phone> system software updates, then check for updates.

there's the instructions to install the 1st update, after that's installed you'll get the option to check for updates in the menu, and from there you'll get the 2.1 download option

Dubby may have a quicker way, but thats the official way of doing it

Google has released tools that "make it easy for anyone to create programs for Android phones".

Much like Lego, App Inventor lets people drag "blocks" of code around to create applications.

Google said it had been working on the system for a year and were pitched at those with little knowledge of programming.

The tools have been tested over the last 12 months by school children and college students, it said.

The graphical blocks represent the different functions and capabilities of a smartphone.

For instance, one tester of the App Inventor used the GPS locator, timer, and database querying blocks to produce an app that told his friends where he was every 15 minutes.

What do you recommend I root to? What are you running, Modaco?

Villian ROM but Modaco is probably more stable, so if you're not someone who likes messing around with your phone I'd go with Modaco.

Upgrading to the proper thing might be fine though, 'cause not much uses root, but I know that before the original 1.5 was much slower than a custom ROM - but we're on 2.1 now so maybe the T-Mob version will be fine.

New Facebook app upgrade is the sh*t still. All they need now is to have event invite support and its over. I guess facebook chat support as well but that's a bit weak as it is.

now including turn by turn navigation aka satnav

im on android 1.6 (google G1) so didnt get it automatically had to manually install via the market
