solve by substution

Lens method 1:

multiply top equation by 2.5

gives You

5x - 12.5y = 10

now subtract other equation

5x - 12.5y = 10 -

5x - 2 y = 3

gives

-10.5y = 7

y = -7/10.5 or

y= -2/3

if You're with me so far, I'll go on

Lens method 2: solve for x, then substitute

2x - 5y = 4

2x = 4 + 5y

x = (4+5y)/2

x = 2 + 2.5y

now instead of x, in 2nd equation, write 2+2.5 y, coz that = x

5x - 2y = 3 becomes

5 (2 +2.5y)- 2y = 3. multiply out, gives

10 + 12.5y - 2y = 3 subtract like terms, gives

10 + 10.5y = 3

10.5y = 3-10

10.5y = -7

y= -7/10.5

y=-2/3
