Broadband is up for renewal and I am not staying with AOL.

So my question is what DSL broadband do you recommend.

Sky is the cheapest but the quality of the service/internet service any good.

I'm baffed.

Be's coverage indicator is telling me I should get around 12mbits.

Every other provider is telling me I would get around 6meg.

Are they chatting sh*t?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of a:

Static IP Address or

Dynamic IP address

Be gives the option but I dunno which one to choose.

I feel like im at college again lol

Static - Good for hosing websites, email servers, easier remote access HOWEVER once/if your hacked your IP addy will be raped by them

Dynamic - You IP address changes everytime you log on, but I know with BE they try to keep the same one for you, easier to go online anonymously

TBH unless you need a static IP no real need for one, even for gaming its not needed

Safe. I have been looking at Be and O2.

Think I am going to go with o2 since I am an o2 mobile customer and will get a fiver of the monthly cost and I think a £50 credit to my mobile contract.

Gonna ask AOL for my mac code on Monday and then f*ck off!

Been with BE for about 2 weeks now,

haven't got over 6mb yet, even though i'm on the 24mb package,

looking to get a BT i-plate, see if that improves it,

Yeah I am gonna buy an iplate also.

Might as well innit.

  • 1 month later...

Got o2 broadband.

Activated yesterday.

I should be getting near enough 11 meg download and 2.5meg upload. But right now I am getting about 7meg d/l and 1 meg upload.

Guy from o2 told me there is a tuning in period of up to 14 days where my speeds will fluctuate, is this true?

If I don't get speeds I am satisfied with I will cancel within the 30 days satisfaction period and get something cheaper.

Would you guys recommend BE in student accommodation ?

Be and O2 broadband are run by the same people.

As far as broadband goes there are cheaper alternatives. I went for o2 because I liked the speeds I was supposed to be getting.

Right now I am not receiving the speeds I thought I would be but they gave my some spiel this morning about it taking a while for broadband to reach optimum speeds and all.

Good thing is that if you are not satisfied then you can tell them nah within 30 days of activation, which is what I will do if my speeds do not improve.

One thing I want to know is. Was this guy from o2 gassing? Should my speeds improve over the next couple of weeks?

Can't remember exactly but I think it does take a little while for the Broadband to settle in and your speed to Improve. I'm paying for 16mb with O2 and get 14 downstreams all the time so been over the moon with them from day 1 really. How far do you live from your exchange aswell? I'm roughly 800 meters from my one in Moss Side. Theres a website that lets you check http://www.dslzoneuk.net/distance.php
