Salespeople have no soul

c/s

I was in IT sales for 18 months and I changed so much as a person. You become ruthless, and you have no real friends in the industry cos everyone is in competition trying to steal your money.

I couldn't hack making 100 phone calls a day trying to get a sale, and the competition within the IT industry is ridiculous. Also, you are only as good as your last sale. So even if i make a £100k sale last week, they will be on your back if you dont do the same this week.

I personally couldn't do it, so got out while I was still young in the industry. Yes, the money is very good- but its all the bullshit that comes with it.

Hear what ur sayin, pressure is immense. Made me bare arrogant, but was mad, cos the more arrogant i got, the more sales i got. also found that chicks loved the arrogance. This was when i was in lettings couple years back.

Did you make big money

I was probably taking home an extra £500-£1000 a month on top of my £22k basic.

The guys who were there a year longer than me were probably taking home £3-£4k per month, but the job itself was just not for me. I could have made alot of money but I'm not motivated by money, I prefer doing a job i enjoy. I was depressed going into work everyday knowing I would be hammering the phones begging IT Managers for sales. Also, there's only really 2 career paths- either Internal (on the phones) or external (on the road). Neither were very appealing to me

I am alot happier now even though I know i would be earning around £40k-£50k if I stayed in sales

Also worked at dial-a-phone in Kentish Town , hated it, even worse when the guy next to you is getting 4k a month from sales

How much experience/qualifications is needed with sales.

you dont really need any.

If in the interview you can prove you have "The Gift of the Gab" then they will hire you. Maybe go to a specialist sales agency.

these are one of the best for entry level positions--- www.pareto.co.uk

I think the main thing with sales is maintaining a positive mental attitude, it's definitely not for everyone. Mic Man you said it made you arrogant; for me it is the complete opposite. Literally if I don't sell I don't eat so I appreciate all the hardwork that goes into that sale and when I get it the feeling is immense.

When I first starting selling financial products I was absolutely terrible, then I read a book with the cheesiest looking guy on the front cover and it changed my life forever. Tom Hopkins "How to Master the Art of Selling" for anyone that cares, that's my sales bible.

Only thing I would say for any aspiring sales goon is to not make the wrong moral decisions. I know guys who would cheat old people out of money and take back handers, they made money stupidly fast but now aren't in sales because they got found out. You need to decide early on if you want to stay in the business for 20 years gradually earning more money legitimently or making BIG money really fast. I'm in it for the long haul.

*Hi-5's*

That's how I started and let me tell you it's one of hardest things you'll ever have to do. If you can make a living and last in that for more than a year, you'll smash sales. The rejection you get on a daily basis would destroy most people. I used to knock 60 doors a day and 50 of them would take me to f*ck off, 5 of them would slam the door in my face and the last 5 would only sign up if you were a good salesman. If I didn't make 15 sales a week, I wouldn't have enough money to eat and pay rent. That's what you call a hard hustle.
