Sol Campbell to marry in July

Recommended Posts

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has revealed his nickname for veteran English stopper Sol Campbell is “Morpheus” from the Matrix. The England winger was talking to the Guardian about his season at the Emirates and his chances of going to the World Cup in South Africa when the subject of nicknames between the Gunners squad was brought up.

Walcott admitted that the Arsenal dressing room had begun calling him Lewis, because he looks very similar to former Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Reflecting on the other names which circled the squad, Walcott joked about the label he had given Sol Campbell since he re-signed at the north London club.

"Sol [Campbell] calls me Lewis all the time. I call Sol 'Morpheus.' You know, from The Matrix? He doesn't like it."

Morpheus, who is played by American actor Laurence Fishburne, is seen throughout The Matrix sci-fi trilogy as a strong, wise, mentor-like figure who plays an integral role in assisting the 'chosen one' Neo, played by Keanu Reaves, to fulfil his destiny.

Whether young Theo feels that it is his own destiny to be guided by Campbell to Arsenal success remains to be seen, although the England international was keen to stress in the aftermath of Saturday's 0-0 draw against Manchester City that age was no excuse for failure anymore.

"We are very young but we've had great experience so we can't really use that any more," he said.

"We've had the ups and downs but just being in there with a shout...hopefully, we can go that one step further next season."
