People Dem Graduating This Summer...

Recommended Posts

Tbh this recession has just sifted out dead wood. Everyone i know who went to a decent uni, got a 2.1 and/or did work placements has a graduate level job or is doing something that will enable them to get one.

Don't feel threatened by all this there are 200 people applying to every position hype the media are pushing. Good candidates

Will find their place eventually. If you went to a dead uni and got a 2.2 however. You need to lower you're expectations a bit and just focus on getting in the door.

I'm not gon pos for your this post.

It's a bit naive to think that all this recession has done is 'shift deadwood'.

You and yours might be doing okay, and you should be thankful for that.

BUT

TIMES ARE PEAK fam.

Worst job market in history. EVER. And man's saying all it's doing is shifting through deadwood.

of course hes talking sh*t, bout decent uni..

when for a simple entry level outh work position we had people from oxford and 3 other redbricks apply for a role they wouldnt have lst yr.

what he should have said is tht EVERY one's expectations are lowered

i have 1st class from law at King's friends working as cashiers in Banks. yes they have a job, but they did not expect to be there right now

but they will ride the tide and all this will add to their skills in the long term

but dont come chatting fraff about everyone who went to a decent Uni will get good job right now..if tht at all :/

Clearly someone missed the point about being given excellent academia rather than excellent job skills.

Oxford hasn't even got that good a graduate employment record anyway - it's very much another level of society, very entrepreneurial.

Also, no one said this.

Yet again, a thread being spun out of control by someone with a hidden agenda to cause arguments.

I am sure you survey threads to find points or discussion you can automatically go against just to cause a big stir.

I don't even think you believe what you're saying half the time anyway.

/Rant over

whats the most annoying is that many graduate Jobs that were paying 22k 5 yrs ago are STILL paying the same amount today

when the cost of living has gone way beyond wht it was 5 yrs ago.

thats the peakest thing for grads right now which is why people are definitely being forced to lower expectations

You missed the small print brah which said "within a 5 mile radius of this uni"

I agree but kinda disagree.

I cannot stress to you enough that, save for big banks (where competition is obv intense) and other specialist areas, most employers are looking for people who have articulated and shown how their skills are transferable to the JOB AT HAND.

My friend did Egyptology (albeit at Oxford) and he is now a civil barrister (obv after doing the GDL).

Just make yourself as unique as possible.

I will happily look over cover letters/applications with no air of snootiness etc if people want. It's always good to get others' advice.

Obvious advice is obvious.

tldr etc
