DAY TWO - WEDNESDAY 28 JULY

Medals up for grabs: 6

One of the most hotly anticipated duels to take place at the Montjuic Stadium this week will feature Britain's world indoor champion Dwain Chambers and a rapidly rising French superstar.

The 20-year-old Christophe Lemaitre (whose surname translates as 'The Master') recently became the first white sprinter to break the 10-second barrier with 9.98 sec in Valence.

Chambers is desperate to make amends after being stripped of European gold at Munich 2002 for doping offences. The 32-year-old Londoner says: "I've made a lot of mistakes. Doing it the right way is so much more rewarding."

The 100m semi-final is at 1850 and the final at 2045. One other star to look out for is Carolina Kluft. Sweden's former Olympic and current European heptathlete champion is now earning her corn in the long jump and has received a wild-card entry for Barcelona.

DAY THREE - THURSDAY 29 JULY

Medals up for grabs: 4

Britain's world triple jump gold medallist Phillips Idowu has a great chance of more glory but will have to overcome France's Teddy Tamgho, the 21-year-old world indoor champion who recently leapt 17.98m in New York.

Tamgho's giant jump beats Idowu

The final of the 'hop, skip and jump' event gets going at 1840. Other Britons featuring in finals could be high jumpers Martyn Bernard and Tom Parsons, and Laura Turner in the 100m, while the decathlon event begins.

Did you know? Idowu says he would be a husky if he was a dog. "They're really smart," he says, "but they're hard to train. They won't do it unless it's worth their while. If you let them off the lead and they want to run, they'll go and they won't come back."

DAY FOUR - FRIDAY 30 JULY

Medals up for grabs: 11

A hectic day on the podium with Britons Martyn Rooney, Jenny Meadows, Will Sharman andAndy Turner all having good shouts for silverware.

Rooney focused on European success

Rooney is in top 400m form having suffered a number of injuries since finishing sixth at the Beijing Olympics.

Sharman and Turner are in the top four of Europe's 110m hurdles rankings, while Meadows looks to improve on her bronze at Berlin's World Championships last year, when she finished behind winner South African Caster Semenya.

The heptathlon begins at 1000 with Ennis looking to build an early lead in the 100m hurdles - her first and best of her seven events.

Did you know? Martyn Rooney loves football. He's a huge Crystal Palace fan and looking to learn from his namesake's efforts for England in South Africa earlier in July.

The 23-year-old south Londoner says: "I'm sure Wayne Rooney was disappointed with his World Cup and he'll bounce back stronger for the experience. He had his best ever season followed by a bad World Cup. I'm having a great season which I expect to underline with a great European Championships."

DAY FIVE - SATURDAY 31 JULY

Medals up for grabs: 11

Another golden day for Jessica Ennis? The 24-year-old from Sheffield has been making speeches as team captain to her GB team-mates but it's time to let her feet and arms do the talking. She runs the 800m - the heptathlon's last event - at 1945.

606: DEBATE

What are your predictions for the European Championships?

Jack Ward

Britain's Mo Farah could be contesting the 5,000m title - if his legs are up for it after the 10,000m - against local favourite Jesus Espana, while British 800m champion Michael Rimmer has an outside chance of a medal.

Welsh wonder Dai Greene has clocked the five fastest times by a European this summer in the 400m hurdles and should be pushing for a podium spot in the final at 1910.

Did you know? As well as clearing hurdles for fun, Greene is pretty useful with a football. The 2007 European U-23 champion was a winger with Swansea but opted to leave the club after being offered a contract at the age of 16.

DAY SIX - SUNDAY 1 AUGUST

Medals up for grabs: 11

The men's marathon starts the final day's action at 0905, before GB's Chris Tomlinson takes to the sand in the long jump, while Lisa Dobriskey could be aiming to go one better in the 1500m final at 2015, following last year's stunning world silver.

Ennis excited ahead of Europeans

Look out for the madness of the baton with GB's 100m men's squad (world bronze in Berlin) and the 400m squad (silver in Berlin) going for more relay medals.

One 'golden oldie' to look out for is Jamaica-born Merlene Ottey, who at 50 would be the oldest athlete at the Europeans if picked to run in Slovenia's 4x100 relay team. Reigning indoor and outdoor world champion Blanka Vlasic will continue her majestic grace in the high jump.

Did you know? Dobriskey, upgraded to silver in Berlin after the disqualification of Spaniard Natalia Rodriguez for pushing over Gelete Burka, has an eclectic mix in who she admires. Her heroes? Cyclist Lance Armstrong, Olympic legend Carl Lewis and former South Africa president Nelson Mandela.

if lamaitre works on his start he could be a real problem (minus bolt)

he aint seeing Tyson Gay either

Or Asafa Powell, and many other sprinters. Man must think getting 10 seconds is something to be proud off, the guy hasn't even got the European Record which is held by Francis Obikwelu(9.84 seconds)

Lol rarely how can man be winning a major championship with a time of 10.11 seconds, it just shows how poor European Athletics is. Francis Obikwelu was the only real sprinter who could go against the Americans and Carribeans.

Mark Lewis Francis ran 9.97 seconds at the age of 19 and look where he is now clocking times like 10.18. Best believe that they're have been sprinters in the past who have ran faster than Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell did in their teens, the thing is very few recreate their form in their mid/late 20's. Even fewer can go to a major championship like the Olympics and World Championships and recreate the time they ran in season events. Lets not get ahead of ourselves the guy is not top 20 sprinters in the world, not even close, 10 seconds stopped being a big deal in the 70's mate and the white guy who came closest before the christophe lemaitre ran that time in the 60''s/70's i believe.

The guy did well, lets see how he copes in 2012, i can put money on it that if Gay and Powell are still on form that he would not win a medal, and lets not forget that the carribean and America are a conveyor belt of sprinting talent, they probably got 18 year olds that will be going under 10 seconds in a couple years.
