One of the richest couples in the world, Bill and Melinda Gates, have said they are committed to helping with ''the diseases of the poorest''.

They have pledged to give away 95 per cent of their fortune and have so far donated £17bn pounds to health projects across the globe.

Much of the money has been spent on vaccines against diseases like polio, malaria and HIV.

Bill and Melinda Gates are in the UK to launch their Living Proof programme, which shows the positive impact of aid projects like theirs

What are you talking about

A sum like 2.7 bil, and especially 54 f*ck*ng bil is essentially infinite income

You won't ever have to do anything ever again

If you think that people who win euro millions, 100 mil or so, can retire and prob buy a lot of flash sh*t, 2.7 bil, 27 times that amount, is more than enough

theres no way a black or asian person with any self respect is giving away their fortune for some altruistic power puff cause

hes a mug

100 years inot the future his money will have counted for nothing... it wlill havae achieved nothing

another disease or war will have wiped out any progress he mde

if i had that much money i wouldnt feel 2 ways about spending it and keepin it in the family

talkin about eating of solid gold plates

if i was his kid id be a bit pissed

human life is so cheap so why spend money tryin 2 conserve it

u got a bit of a point there

c/s keeping it in the family

2.7 bn is still mad

During a February 2010 TED conference, Gates openly stated that vaccines would be used to reduce global population and lower CO2 emissions.

Stating that the global population was heading towards 9 billion, Gates said, “If we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services (abortion), we could lower that by perhaps 10 or 15 per cent.”

Quite how an improvement in health care and vaccines that supposedly save lives would lead to a lowering in global population is an oxymoron, unless Gates was referring to vaccines that sterilize people, which is precisely the same method advocated in White House science advisor John P. Holdren’s 1977 textbook Ecoscience, which calls for a dictatorial “planetary regime” to enforce draconian measures of population reduction via all manner of oppressive techniques, including sterilization.

The world is overpopulated. As humans, we've got no natural population control, so people need to be educated about birth control etc. I don't think what Bill Gates suggested is anything more sinister than that.

Some people will just always try and bring down people doing righteous things.

the problem is the food deficit.

there is basically not enough to go around, even if all the food in the world was shared out equally there would still be a deficit.

its nuts that there are more people alive at this moment than have died in all of human history, our population has exploded over the last hundred years.

we need to start terra forming mars and living on different planets imo.

there is a deficit, but when you consider how technology can be used , theres no need for a deficit at all. The sun shines, and rain falls.

yep mad isnt it.

thats how fast were multiplying.

we can use technology to increase food production, but we have to use it right, the last 'green revolution' was good at first but left areas in india barren once the soil had been drained and also poisoned water supplies resulting in birth defects. governments in places like africa need to be wary of the intensive techniques being pushed by chemical companies like monsanto imo.

rather make deserts habitable because we are not using up this planet

Dubai is essentially a city/ state built on a desert. The before and after pics are amazing

Let's not forget that through genetic modification vegetables can be made much larger, so it isn't even a question of sunshine and rainfall.
