The England Football Team Thread

Arsene Wenger has hit out at rules limiting the number of foreign players allowed in Premier League squads, saying it is not his job to worry about the standard of the England team.

Fabio Capello supports the cap and Premier League bosses hope it will encourage clubs to invest properly in young English talent.

Premier League squads this season must contain a maximum of 25 players aged over 21, at least eight of whom have to be ‘home-grown’ — that is, players trained in England or Wales for 36 months before the end of the season in which they became 21.

But Wenger, whose Arsenal squad contains 14 foreign players over 21 and just six ‘home-grown’ ones, none of whom are English, branded the rules ‘artificial’ and said having to play more English players will damage the standard of the league.

‘I’m not too much for rules. What is important is quality,’ said Wenger. ‘The Premier League is the most watched league in the world and you only get that if you focus on quality.’

Wenger said it was not his concern whether that had a negative effect on the national team, adding being England manager ‘is not my job, fortunately’.

What do we reckon he'll start with?

Maybe something like -

Hart

Johnson - Terry - Dawson - Cole

Milner - Barry - Wilshere

Lennon - Rooney - Johnson

Don't think he'll wanna take too many changes otherwise it's pointless. Maybe Lampard or Huddlestone instead of Barry but no holding player/experience then.

Rob Green to never play for England again then?

SWP went from playing 3 times in the WC to out the squad... Same for Joe Cole...

Arsenal went from having no players good enough for England to signing no English players yet having three players in the next squad...

They f*ck*ng f*ck up again, is capello f*ck*ng off his head, how can you leave out Joe Cole you gotta be kidding me. To be honest with you these bastards are going to waste Wilshere they have Cole, they don't value what they call 'luxury' players, look at the likes of Hoddle, Mcmanaman, Beardsley, now Cole before him, as soon as Cole burst onto the scene they should of made it priority to build the team round him, similar to the way Germany do Ozil. Instead they wasted him on the wings, and subjected him to cameo apperances, what a f*ck*ng sad story, they should of dropped that punk Lampard, drop that Walcott guy and taken Huddlestone and Cole.
