Gang members face jail for entering rival territory in their 'colours'

Suspected gang members could soon be locked up for wearing their ‘colours’ and entering rival territory, even if they have not been convicted of a crime.

‘Gang injunctions’ – described as an upgrade on anti-social behaviour orders – will be in force for over-18s from the end of next month and could see youths banned from wearing hats, shirts or bandanas of the same colour.

The orders, applied for by police and councils against people suspected of being involved in gang violence, would last for up to two years and breaches could be punished with jail sentences.

The move was announced by crime prevention minister James Brokenshire in Waltham Forest, east London, an area troubled by violent feuds.

He said: ‘Gangs cause significant and lasting harm to our communities through fuelling violence, creating an atmosphere of fear and drawing young people into criminality.’ The new powers would impose ‘tough conditions on the behaviour of individuals’ while also ‘providing strong support to those who want to leave violent gangs’, he added.

But Isabella Sankey, of campaign group Liberty, raised concerns about youths being punished and potentially imprisoned without being formally charged or convicted.

She said this would ‘inevitably lead to law-abiding teenagers having their studies disrupted and reputations ruined after being wrongly stigmatised’.

The move was cautiously welcomed by Mr Brokenshire’s Labour shadow, Vernon Coaker, who said it reflected previous plans by his party ‘to crack down on gang-related crime’.

But he said cutting police budgets at the same time meant ‘the risk is things will get worse rather than better’.

so they saying that the sh*t only applies to those with the injunction...

guess that kinda helps, but it still dumb, considering certain man rep their colours to the point where they don't buy other colours

added to them closing the court in lambeth so brixton man are gonna have to go court in camberwell, and there's other examples of the same.

plus the law's only applying to over 18s, showin they got no idea of the reality of the issue.
