We’ve got 5 copies to give away of the upcoming Egyptrixx album “Bible Eyes”, due out next Monday the 7th of March. This is his first artist album on the excellent Night Slugs, a label that continues to change the face of the Bass music scene since it first appeared in early 2010. Their releases are some of the most antecipated in electronic music right now and this album is no exception. Listen to samples here.

To enter the competition all you need to do is go to this tweet and retweet it (you’ll need to be a follower before you can retweet)! Simple as that! On the 8th of March we will pick 5 random retweets and announce them as our winners.

Read some more:

Egyptrixx’ debut album Bible Eyes is set for an early March release on cult London label Night Slugs. Recorded over three months during the summer of 2010, Bible Eyes is a complete work that brings together elements of techno, house, hip hop and pop, while possessing a unique continuity – almost a story arch – of its own.

The work of classically trained pianist and Toronto native, David Psutka, Bible Eyes is celestial club music; jeep music for a Saturn desert. There is an exhilarating right-but-wrong tension that all of Egyptrixx’s tracks share – a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial. A crystalline vastness and glassy texture holds the record together.

Opening track “Start From The Beginning” drones in waves over white washed atmospheres and gentle piano stabs; a perfect lead into the house cycles of the title track. Lead single “Chrysalis Records” bleeds into experimental pop and is matched perfectly with the vocals of Maya from Canadian band Trust. The journey shifts into the minimal techno realm on “Liberation Front” followed by psychedelic (and gorgeous) down tempo broken beat on the irresistible “Naples” and the trippy “Rooks Theme”. Melodic techno is back in the picture on “Recital (A Version)” before Trust’s other singer (Rob) lends his vocals to the spacey gothic pop of “Fuji Club”. The bass breaks of “Barely” and the jagged and pulsating “Recital (B version)” provide the final chapters in Egyptrixx’ Bible Eyes.

It’s competition time here on Digital-Tunes again, but this time we’re doing it a bit differently. We know that most of you are DJ’s and die hard electronic music fans, so with this in mind, we thought it would be great to get a glimpse of your selector skills by running a chart competition. The idea is simple, just create a chart consisting of 10 tracks from the store. There are no limits on musical genres: if we sell it, you can use it! It’s totally up to you how you pick the tunes.

To enter the “Sickest Chart of the month” competition simply create a chart, composed of 10 tracks, on the Digital-Tunes website with as description text “Entry in the ‘Sickest Chart of the month Competition’”. You can let us know about your chart via Twitter (use tag #sickestchart), Facebook or e-mail (via [email protected]). Don’t forget to send us a link to the chart!

Up for grabs are:

- Winner: 70 € store credit + the winning chart will be featured on our homepage and social networks.

- Runner-up: 30 € store credit

If you didn’t know already there are two ways to create charts. Perhaps the easiest is to browse the store and add tracks to your wishlist, using the little heart icons. Then go to your wishlist, and click the ‘Create Chart’ button. Alternatively, if you already know the 10 tracks, you can just go to dj charts > submit chart and add the tracks one by one there.

The competition ends on the 18th of April, so make sure you get your submission in before then!

We have 5 copies to give away of the upcoming compilation “20 f*ck*ng Years of Planet E: We Ain’t Dead Yet“ on the super influential label Planet E, created by one of Detroit’s most revered artists, Carl Craig. This compilation gathers some of the greatest moments of the label’s catalogue, most of them turning points not only for House/Techno but for all the electronic music scene. Listen here

To enter this competition all you need to do is go to this tweet and retweet it! Simple as that! On the 5th of April, at 12 GMT, we will pick 5 random retweets and announce them as our winners.

More about the compilation:

“Entitled 20 F@#&ING Years – We Ain’t Dead Yet, the package draws from all eras of Planet E, a label Craig says was born out of a “desire to control” his “musical destiny.” Essentially a “best of” compilation, it features cuts from classic groups like Quadrant, Paperclip People and Innerzone Orchestra, as well as one previously unreleased tune: a C2 remix of Kenny Larkin’s “You Are.” We Ain’t Dead Yet will also come out as a vinyl box set this summer, with a tracklist decided by fans in an online competition, details for which will be announced soon."

BIO

Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, and now based in Barcelona, Spain, Luis Garbán (aka Cardopusher) has been blurring lines and crossing boundaries in electronic music as easily as he crosses geographical borders. Defying trends and scenes, this musical juggernaut is a force unto himself, resting on a rich and varied history of musical accomplishments, and the undeniable ability to leave international dancefloors heaving for more. Inspired by labels like Tigerbeat6, Schematic, Planet Mu, Rephlex, and the diverse scene surrounding them in the early 2000s, Garbán decided to start his own productions.

After taking time to develop his unique sound, Cardopusher got signed by legendary French label Peace Off to release his first album “Hippie Killers Don’t Mind Jah Conversations” (2006). Since then, he has toured around the world, playing a range of events from small parties to huge festivals. His work as an audio engineer with long time friend and collaborator Pacheko helped catch the eye of Red Bull Music Academy, who included him in their 2008 Barcelona edition.

Cardopusher's music has been in constant progress, shifting effortlessly between different genres and scenes. He's released three full LPs to date, as well as a slew of EPs, tracks, and remixes on labels like DVA Music, Iberian Records, Tigerbeat6, Enchufada, Car Crash Set, and Kode 9’s visionary Hyperdub. Spurred on by these successes, in 2012 Cardo and close friend DJ/producer Nehuen have started a new record label called Classicworks, dedicated to just quality music and soundsystem wreckage. Expect more of the unexpectable.

Our guest this week is Distal, a DJ and producer hailing from Atlanta, Georgia USA with defying but vital releases on bass institutions such as Tectonic, Tube10 or his own Embassy label:

Guest Chart #07: Distal

ky4s_da5_u9lc2.jpg otbi_8f3_u9lc2.jpg

Distal is an already established 28-year-old veteran of Electronic music. Forgetting bpm and genre to the masses, he relies only on his signature sound alone to leave its mark. He produces a wide array of moods, tempos and rhythms, often taking influences from his early childhood love of techno, jungle and hardcore.

Before entering the world of production head on Distal spent a few years under the microscope at Georgia State University researching a sensational auditory phenomenon called Synesthesia. One day while digging through break-core records he stumbled upon a sound that would inspire him to launch his production career (Pinch – Punisher on Planet Mu). Using his newfound passion, traditional teachings and his scientific studies in unison he ran head first into the studio winter of 2007.

In early 2010 Distal started his own label Embassy Recordings with childhood friend Ethan Anderson (MITE). Soon there after in the summer of 2010 he would receive his inaugural physical vinyl release with the legendary label Soul Jazz Records. This would be the launch pad for his career landing him releases on stalwart labels such as Tectonic and Tube10 and gigs at places like the world renowned Fabric in London touring globally alongside artists like Pearson Sound and Africa Hi Tech.

From his initial release in 2010 until now in 2012 Distal has put out almost a dozen 12” vinyl releases and that many more digital releases, collaborations and remixes for prolific labels like Frite Nite and Trouble & Bass. But his biggest accomplishment will come in the form of a 14 track Album on Tectonic in the spring appropriately named Civilization.

Looking ahead Distal is already thinking about future projects, and how to genuinely push things forward and farther than he has in the past. He lives to create, expand and invent. Hopefully one day leaving a legacy on the world as one of the most in demand artists North America has ever seen.
