Channel 4 To Film People Taking Food Live

BRITS will be filmed taking illegal Class A drugs in a live TV experiment.

Drugs Live aims to show the effect of danger substances like cocaine and ecstasy.

Channel 4 was last night accused of turning a deadly issue into entertainment that could ENCOURAGE more drug use by showing how to do it. But its bosses insisted the series is a serious scientific investigation of the crisis afflicting Britain - branded the drugs capital of Europe.

Chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: "This is an incredibly bold live experiment on the impact these substances have on humans in a clinical environment."

She added that although Class A drugs are banned in Britain, their volunteers will be taking them legally as they will be monitored in laboratory conditions.

Commissioning editor David Glover said: "Viewers can see for themselves in scientific detail the effects." The four-parter is expected to air later this year in a post-watershed slot.

Sceptic Vivienne Pattison, of Media Watch UK, said: "Channel 4 called The Joy Of Teen Sex educational but it was semi-porn for titillation. This sounds the same." A parent of teens said: "I don't want them shown how to take drugs. It may encourage them."

Britain leads the EU in cocaine and amphetamine use, with more than 2.8million adults in England on drugs between 2009 and 2010.

Meanwhile, new illegal drugs have almost doubled to 41 in a year, the Centre for Drugs and Addiction revealed last night.

Load of bollocks. What is this going to achieve? Who doesn't know what coke does to them? Seriously? I don't see the point. Better off doing a serious unbiased investigation into the illegality of drugs in this country, what the law is supposed to achieve and how succesfull it's been over the last 30 years or whatever...
