Iran to blind criminal with acid in 'eye for an eye' justice

IRAN-BAHRAMI-blinded-007.jpg

In a literal application of the sharia law of an eye for an eye, Iran is ready for the first time to blind a man with acid, after he was found guilty of doing the same to a woman who refused to marry him.

Majid Movahedi, 30, is scheduled to be rendered unconscious in Tehran's judiciary hospital at noon on Saturday while Ameneh Bahrami, his victim, drops acid in both his eyes, her lawyer said.

Bahrami who had asked for an eye for an eye retribution in the court, was disfigured and blinded by Movahedi in 2004 when he threw a jar of acid in her face while she was returning home from work. "He was holding a red container in his hand. He looked into my eyes for a second and threw the contents of the red container into my face," she told the court in 2008.

According to Iranian media, Bahrami's lawyer, Ali Sarafi, has said: "A very good sentence has been given and an appropriate method has been adopted so that the convict will be blinded by few drops of acids in eyes after he is rendered unconscious."

Osama bin Laden 'revenge' attack kills scores in Pakistan

Two suicide bombers target military training centre in north-west Pakistan in assault Taliban claim is 'first of many'

Pakistan suicide bomb kills 80 as Taliban seeks revenge for Bin Laden

When Osama bin Laden's Pakistani supporters strike back, this is what it looks like: twisted metal, scattered suitcases and body parts; blood and savagery.

The Taliban said the vicious double suicide bombing in Shabqadar, a trading town on the edge of the tribal belt in Charsadda district in north-western Pakistan, claimed the first part of the blood price they had promised to extract for the American killing of Bin Laden on 2 May. It was conducted with ruthless efficiency.

Abid Khan, 24, cowered in his sweetshop when he heard the first blast and then, eight minutes later, a second. Rushing to the scene, he found some 200 trainee soldiers strewn on the road among mangled vans and a pile of bags.

"It was very bad," he said in slow, precise English. "Some people had no hand. Some people had no foot. Some heads were far away [from] the people." He repeated himself. "It was very bad."

The dead and injured had been among 800 trainee soldiers partying just hours earlier with songs and music, having graduated into the ranks of the Frontier Corps, a poorly equipped paramilitary force drawn from the tribes of north-western Pakistan.

as appropriate as it feels

eye for an eye is illogical

even if Ameneh does ''feel better'' after retribution (which i doubt), violent acts do not solve anything

as i've said before, severe criminals like Majid should become neurological/psychological case studies, with no degree of freedom

basically lab rats

THAT would solve something/help prevent future cases AND also act off-putting towards similar deviants

imagine ok he's gonna be blind, f*ck he will adjust just like she has...you want real punishment make him a lab rat, not only beneficial to society but hellish torment for severe criminal

Im Kent Brockman, and that was my two cents.

For Second Time in 3 Days, NATO Raid Kills Afghan Child

KABUL, Afghanistan — For the second time in three days, a night raid in eastern Afghanistan by NATO forces resulted in the death of a child, setting off protests on Saturday that turned violent and ended in the death of a second boy.

The district governor, Abdul Khalid, said he had feared a Taliban attack on the government center and had called for help from local Afghan security forces. At the same time, there was a raid, he said. “American forces did an operation and mistakenly killed a fourth-grade student; he had gone to sleep in his field and had a shotgun next to him,” he said.

“People keep shotguns with them for hunting, not for any other purposes,” Mr. Khalid said.

The boy was the son of an Afghan National Army soldier, according to Noor Alam, the headmaster of the school the student attended. Although the boy was 15, like many rural Afghans, he was in a lower grade because he had not been able to go to school regularly, local residents said.

When morning came, an angry crowd gathered in Narra, the boy’s village, and more than 200 people marched with his body to the district center. Some of the men were armed and confronted the police, shouting anti-American slogans and throwing rocks at police vehicles and the Hesarek government center, according to the district governor and the headmaster.

The police opened fire in an effort to push back the crowd to stop its advance to the district center. A 14-year-old boy was killed, and at least one other person was wounded, Mr. Khalid said.

On Thursday, a night raid by international forces in Nangahar Province resulted in the death of a 12-year-old girl and her uncle, who was a member of the Afghan National Police.

Elsewhere in eastern Afghanistan, there was a car bombing directed at a joint Afghan and coalition patrol on Saturday. The explosion, in Yaqoubi District, injured eight civilians, including six children, according to Faisal Mohammed, a doctor at the hospital in Khost City.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn charged with sex attack on New York hotel maid

IMF head arrested on flight at JFK airport and charged with sexual assault and attempted rape at Manhattan hotel

Dominique-Strauss-Kahn-he-014.jpg

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, head of the International Monetary Fund and the French left's great hope for president, has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a maid in a New York hotel.

Strauss-Kahn, 62, was taken from the first class cabin of a Paris-bound Air France flight on the tarmac at JFK airport by plain clothes officers before Manhattan police formally arrested him on charges of criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment.

New York police spokesman Paul Browne detailed the alleged brutal attack on a woman at the Sofitel New York on West 44th Street in the heart of the city's theatre district, where Strauss-Kahn was staying in a $3,000 (£1,850) a night suite.

The 32-year-old woman told police she entered Strauss-Kahn's room at about 1pm. Browne said: "She told detectives he came out of the bathroom naked, ran down a hallway to the foyer where she was, pulled her into a bedroom and began to sexually assault her, according to her account. She pulled away from him and he dragged her down a hallway into the bathroom where he engaged in a criminal sexual act, according to her account to detectives. He tried to lock her into the hotel room."

By the time police arrived, Strauss-Kahn had left the hotel, leaving behind his mobile phone and other personal items. "It looked like he got out of there in a hurry," Browne added.

The charges have stunned French politics, where 'DSK' was the Socialist favourite to beat Nicolas Sarkozy in next year's presidential election. Strauss-Kahn was expected to declare within weeks that he would run in the primary race to become the left's official candidate. But political commentators today suggested his presidential dream was over

A 2008 IMF investigation cleared Strauss-Kahn of harassment and favouritism over an affair with a senior colleague but deemed it a "serious error of judgement".

wait, why doesn't Strauss have diplomatic immunity?

smells like a smear campaign to me, even if he's found not guilty most people will still point to the allegation so damage will be done either way, especially as he was the only real challenger in the French elections ur Av voter will just remember the headlines "Strauss charged with rape"
