SLUTWALK

Yeah

Dress up as sluts and march against sexism is the idea...

wtf is this all about?

http://www.socialistparty.org.uk/issue/672/12111/25-05-2011/slutwalk-protests

This event was set up in solidarity with our Canadian sisters after a Toronto police representative claimed women would stop getting raped if they “stopped dressing like sluts”. We believe this is wrong – the only thing that causes RAPE is RAPISTS.

We want to claim back the word “slut” and take away its power. We want to stop victims being blamed, and blaming themselves. We want to fight sexual stereotypes, and the stereotypes surrounding sexual assault. We’re ANGRY about the way the victims of sexual violence are treated and perceived and we want to change this dramatically.

This is NOT about hate. We will not tolerate hatred of any sort – we want to use the word slut in a positive and empowering way.

...

<_<

They have had this all over USA & Canada apparently. Theres one in Glasgow this Saturday and one in London on the 11th June

PMSL ITS CALLED HOODIES HIJABS AND HOTPANTS

You cant make this sh*t up

Ken Clarke asserts that there’s a difference between date rape and ‘serious’ rape.

Thoughts?

Don't agree with the immature parading, but the sentiment is right, it's just bringing to light the fact that peoples attitudes towards rape are a bit off, like blaming the woman for dressing scantily

who the f*ck thought it would be a good idea to to a march in support of the hijab called slutwalk, a couple of the event organisers are hijabis aswell.

Hijab is meant to guard a womans modesty, u aint guarding nothing if ur marching in 'slutwalk'

it makes sense

basically

just because we want to dress provocatively, doesn't mean you can rape us

so thoughts ALA Ken Clarke can be brought to shame

The reason it is provocatively named slut walk makes sense for 2 reasons specifically :

1. The protest was named ''Slut walk'' because a Toronto police officer was quoted saying that women should avoid dressing like "sluts" to avoid being raped or victimized.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SlutWalk

2. The term Slut walk is provocative, and they dress provocatively in protest. This is what they are defending, the right to dress provocatively without being raped.

/

3. Girls who wear Hijab also suffer from rape, which may or may not have anything to do with their clothing. So naturally they will take part in this protest. United against rape. I'm a slut against rape. DUUUUUUUUUH!

Some woman from my work was looking at my pc over my shoulder and this topic was in the bar at the bottom. I'm pretty sure she doesn't know the context of it either.

can imagine a reporter approaching them as they march

Reporter: "Ladies, what inspired this march, racism, child abuse, child poverty, starvation?"

Random Whore: ". . . . Err, we think it's wrong to be called a slut if we dress a certain way, so we dressed a certain way and called our march SLUTWALK :)"

Reporter: "There we have it. Back to you in the studio Tim"

guy was talking sense tho,

not really. rape is rape brah. just like murder is murder. Some people are murdered more horrific ways than others. Still, murder is murder.

I guess girls can lie about being raped, but in these cases theres usually lack of evidence and the case gets dropped

Ken Clarke was correct

He was presented figures which showed that the average sentence for rape was 5 years

He replied by saying that the figures were distorted by 'less serious' cases of rape, i.e. a 17 year old male having sex with a 15 year old girl, who consents, by law, this is statutory rape, but because of the circumstances it obviously carries a much lower sentence, and that a forced rape of an unwilling woman, carries a much longer sentence

Nothing wrong with what he said in theory, though obviously being justice minister you have to be more careful

But yes, he was correct.

Yes, that's true

I think the point is is that even if a chick does dress like a slut that's no grounds for rape to be deemed more acceptable

Like why is a woman in a short skirt and tube top getting the sh*t raped out of her any more acceptable than a bird in a coat and jeans getting it?

Just highlighting that

Basically this march is about victim blaming. Dumb talksport types say sh*t like "if they weren't wearing them clothes then they wouldn't have been raped"

etc etc

safe didn't even think about that
