its sounding dead based off first 2 listens

Fair enough but he is not Keef or Durk

He has spent over a year researching musical theory and history, writing lyrics, studying different concepts, finding the right beats then actually putting it together the way he wants it to be heard

You can't just call it shit after two listens, fair enough it may be shit, but at least give it the respect to try and take it in properly before passing a judgement and labelling it shit

I was just reciting what Lupe said in an interview last month about real musicians spending all that time and energy on a project for a listener to pass an opinion on it after one or two listens whereas in the art industry people take time to study paintings and their multiple layers and meanings

I didn't think gwad lupe was being technical but fair play if what he said is too much to take in for you

Think about the album & black race as a caterpillar.

A caterpillar eats and munches on anything and everything in sight to grow in "mad world"

That is us. Fresh out of slavery and seen by the world as ugly. But we're grinding and pushing to grow despite America doing what they can to stop us.

Thats the first section of the album. verything in sight to grow in "mad world"

That is us. Fresh out of slavery and seen by the world as ugly. But we're grinding and pushing to grow despite America doing what they can to stop us.

Its also how kendrick sees the first part of his career.

Thats the first section of the album. Up till "these walls".

Eventually a caterpillar reaches its growing point and cocoons itself from the world.

This begins the introspection and self hate part of the album. "u" for example.

The black race near the 50s. A critical point in our history where we verge of a.ssimilation. Alot of self hate and colorism. We had to figure out who we were.

Kendrick also had to figure himself out. He was also going through self hate for neglecting his family. He had to look inside and go home to learn. He f!ghts his demons with the devil "lucy" (lucifer) on whether to sell his soul and accepting god (How much a dollar cost) this goes on till complexion.

Then the butterfly emerges. Beautiful and innocent.

This transitions the album to self love and black power songs. Complexion, i, you aint gotta lie.

The butterfly also represents black talent. The final message is the title. It mirrors to k!ll a mockingbird. In the book to k!ll a mockingbird is a sin. To pimp our talents (butterfly) to make it in the world would be a sin.

Then the final convo with pac discusses our future.

The poem he extends after each section also parallels the album and message.
