Google toolbar stops pop-ups though, this one's different. I honestly don't mind it though, it's not like them flash ones on RWD that get in the way. Just as long as I can remove it myself everything's bless.

Dunno about the one he's using but Google pay for theirs. They do an average of the hits you recieve and the amount of people that click on them. This site could get about 5 pound a month, sounds small but it builds up.
