A gang of youngsters who claimed to be the children of Russian oligarchs are being hunted by police after clocking up a £75,000 bar bill on Cristal champagne and doing a runner on their yacht.

The audacious gang - who had been cruising the Mediterranean on the British-registered 220ft Kismet - stopped off at former QPR owner Flavio Briatore's VIP-only bar Billionaires in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy.

'They ordered 90 bottle of Cristal and had a very loud and lively night right up to the early hours of the morning,' one source told local newspaper Unione Sarda.

But when the time came to pay the bill, the youngsters told Billionaires' staff they had forgotten their credit cards and left the Kismet's skipper to vouch for the bill.

By the next day, the Russian playboys and the girls who had been partying with them had disappeared without a trace - leaving the yacht's skipper and his company, Nautica, to foot the bill.

The Billionaires Bar called in police yesterday after it became clear they'd been left with a £75,000 hangover.

'The police think they're long gone back to Russia or somewhere that will mean they're beyond the reach of the law in Sardinia,' said one source at the bar.

Now prosecutors are trying to work out whether the bar was hoodwinked by a group of students pretending to be super-rich or whether they were cheated by real-life playboys.

'Kismet is a good sized yacht with a pool and it enough for most people to think that anyone on board must be pretty seriously rich,' said one harbour user.

Playboy Mr Briatore - who has dated some of world's most beautiful models - has turned the bar into one of most prestigious A-list spots in Italy and regularly entertains stars like Heidi Klum or Naomi Campbell there.
