Should We Qualify For Europe As Holders? By Nu Mad Friday 27th April 2007 We received an e-mail today suggesting Freddy Shepherd should do what the Liverpool chairman did and appeal to UEFA to suggest the holders of a competition should have the right to defend their trophy. The InterToto Cup may not even be a cup ... but we were presented with it this season ... whatever it may be. And Liverpool were allowed to defend the Champions League when they were holders and failed to qualify the following season by their league position. As it stands the InterToto position is between ourselves and Blackburn, butBlackburn defender Stephen Warnock can see his side squeeze into an automatic UEFA Cup spot. Leaving the way clear for Newcastle.Only four wins from their four remaining games will realistically be enough for Rovers to claim a place in the Barclays Premiership's top seven, but the Intertoto Cup offers an alternative route.http://www.newcastleutd-mad.co.uk/news/loa...=TMNW&id=336211 SKEEEEEEN biggrin.gif
