Memory or HDD (Hard Disk Drive)?

If it's memory as in those rectangular modules that isnt where data is stored that's RAM which the computer uses for running programs.

If it's a HDD, which I doubt because moving laptop Hard Drives is not straightforward, then maybe you accidently reformatted it when installing it onto you new lappy?

memory = thin sticks/cards - you'll probably have more than 1 in there - you don't need this

HDD = about 2 centimetres thick - you probably won't be able to plug more than one in a laptop

its called a 2.5" hard disk drive

find out whether its SATA or IDE and then get a USB connector for it
