Juventus Will Not Renew Del Piero's Contract

Juventus have confirmed that the 2011/12 season will be legend Alessandro Del Piero's last for the Turin giants.

The 36-year-old former Italy international joined the Old Lady from Padova in 1993 and has been a virtual ever-present since.

Del Piero is Juve's all-time record goalscorer and became their highest-capped player when he surpassed Gaetano Scirea in 2008.

The veteran marksman had wanted to stay for another season with Juventus, however, they have opted against keeping him on.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli confirmed the news at a shareholders' meeting.

"The unique link between the old Juventus and the new Juve is our captain, Alessandro Del Piero," commented Agnelli.

"The link between the Stadio Comunale, Stadio delle Alpi to Stadio Olimpico to the Juventus Stadium is our captain Del Piero.

Disgrace all he has done for the club staying with them in Seria B when everyone else jumped ship, guy deffo deserved to retire there, he is a true legend. He is like their Giggs.

Speaking of the World Cup 2006,

a) Noel Gallagher and Del Piero are very good friends as Fanta has just said

Del Piero is a massive Oasis fan, and the "Importance of being idle" is the song that reminds him of that World cup win

c) That Del Piero invited Noel to come watch him at the World Cup, in his words "WHEN (not if) England get knocked out"

d) That Noel did just that, and was invited to the Italian camp prior to the semi final, and Del Piero told him not to talk to Totti (who had just been named in the team to play ahead of the benched DP) cos he was "the enemy"

e) That Noel Gallagher was then present at the semi final against Germany, was sat with Del Piero's wife, and had predicted to her prior to kick off that Del Piero would come on and score the winner. So hence, when Del Piero did indeed do that (and subsequently ran over to celebrate looking up at Noel and his missus), his wife made him come watch the final, wearing exactly the same clothes as a lucky omen
