Controversial light welterweight Ohara Davies has been pulled from the Lawrence Okolie -- Isaac Chamberlain undercard by Eddie Hearn after a series of tweets taunting Tommy Coyle.

Davies (16-1, 13KOs) had been due to take on an unnamed opponent on the Feb. 3 card at London's O2 Arena, and Davies claims that his comments praising the Sun newspaper were an attempt to goad Coyle into fighting him.

Coyle has been a long-time critic of the Sun newspaper over their coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy.

Davies' tweets, which have since been removed, caused a huge backlash, with fellow boxers including Tony Bellew, Liam Smith and Josh Taylor, who beat Davies earlier this year, condemning his behaviour.

Davies later apologised for his actions, stating that he was "totally ignorant" of the reasons behind Coyle's hatred of the newspaper.

However, hours after Davies' apology, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn announced that he was pulling Davies' next fight.

"Following comments made by Ohara Davies on social media yesterday, we have removed him from our Feb. 3 show at the O2 Arena," Hearn said.

"Whilst I believe his comments were made through ignorance they were unacceptable and highly offensive to many of our friends, fighters and to a city that we have a huge amount of respect for."

The fighter's management, Sims Sport Management, have also suspended Davies with immediate effect.
