Andre Ward: Undefeated champion to fight Paul Smith

 

WBA super-middleweight champion Andre Ward will fight England's Paul Smith in Oakland, USA on 20 June.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced the fight - although Ward's title is not thought to be on the line in Northern California.

Ward, 30, who is undefeated in his 27 fights, won on points against Carl Froch in 2011.

 

The American has not fought since beating Edwin Rodriguez in November 2013.

Smith, 32, from Liverpool has won 35 of his 40 fight but lost his last two world title shots against German Arthur Abraham.

Sparring session for ward..unless he's really ring rusty.

Even if he's ring rusty, it's sparring.

I smashed up Paul Smith many many years ago in sparring. He's just a brute.

Reh. What's your amateur record lad?

36 fights 31 wins.

Last fight 2013.

Impressive. You win any aba titles then, regional, divisional, national etc?

Wladimir Klitschko says Tyson Fury set to be next challenger

 

Wladimir Klitschko said Britain's Tyson Fury is set to be his next challenger after retaining his world heavyweight titles for the 18th time in a row.

The 39-year-old Ukrainian, who holds the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts, secured a unanimous points victory over American Bryant Jennings at New York's Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

 

British champion Fury, 26, is the mandatory challenger for the WBO crown.

"I think this fight needs to happen in Europe," said Klitschko, 39.

"Fighting Fury in Germany or in Great Britain, that's something we have to figure out."

Klitschko, competing in a record-equalling 27th heavyweight title fight, was awarded victory over Jennings 116-111, 116-11 and 118-109.

"Jennings would have beaten a lot of heavyweights," said the champion, who has won 64 of his 67 fights. "He's a tough competitor."
