That Cristiano is only 2nd to Messi in Football

That Rooney is World Class

That Mourinho is a tactical genius

That Lampard must be respected as a footballer

That Torres was World Class a few years ago

These are all accurate.

Let's ignore the likes of Xavi and Iniesta

Yet to carry his Premier League form into the KO of UCL and major international tournaments

His teams play the same there is no versatility whatsoever and just because he makes early subs doesn't make him a tactical genius. It's more than to luck and gambling than nous.

As TF said as a goalscorer yes but as a footballer? meh never ever.

His years at Liverpool (in particular the 1st season) are the exception and not the norm when you look at Torres' career,he was made out to be the best thing ever. Adebayor was just as good as him in 2007-08 but never received 1/10th of the hype.

How can you say Fernando Torres was overated at Atletico Madrid?

He broke through when Atletico Madrid won the Segunda Division - he was the catalyist in reforming a great team that had been drestroyed very much like Leeds United.

He was also the youngest ever Captain at Atletico at just 19 year old and managed to single handedly beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp recording Atleticos first win there for 12 years.

There has been an enormous amount of pressure on his shoulders since he was a young boy carrying the hopes of a giant in the Spanish game and its no wonder he hasn't got the heart or desire to go through all this strain again in his late 20's when all he's been told was that things will only get easier as you get older in Football yet he finds himself back at square one.

His record for Atletico was nothing special. In fact both Aguero and Forlan have vastly superior scoring records in Atletico

he isn't and wasn't ever World Class. Lacks basic technical skills that other top players have, and that's what allows them to get their form back after '6 games'. Torres was always based on pace and confidence, not really technique.

That most Premier League defenders know him now, will have played against him numerous times. There's was a little interview with Curtis Davies after the cup game few weekends ago where he says:

"With Torres he wants to play on your shoulder, get in that right hand channel, and try to his famous cut in and whip. But we didn't let him do that, we managed to get on to him quite well."

I don't think you quite grasp the concept of playing for a team that's just been promoted and one that has been stablised and pushing on for the future.

Fernando Torres scoring 82 in 214 with Atletico Madrid in 2001-2007 was one of the greater striking achievements in Europe.

Low on funds - an aging Albertini was brought into stabilise the team, with 34yo former Barcelona fullback Sergi covering the flanks and a support striker in Jose Mari who was a £13m flop at Milan loaned back for strength in depth whilst 33yo Jovan Stankovic was expected to pull the strings.

Compare that with Diego Forlan & Sergio Aguero playing with the likes of Simao, Mista, Antonio Lopez, Sietierdies, Reyes, Maniche, Maxi, Raul Garcia

Your argument is flawed.

Statistical evidence always needs to be used theoretically and doesn't mean causation.

Most of La Liga followers never rated him that highly. His goalscoring record with Spain is 27 in 91 matches. Fernando Morientes scored 27 in 47 matches for Spain ffs! Fernando Hierro a centre back has a better scoring record than Torres in the national team.

So don't give me that better players around him sub story

Sorry forgot you lived in Spain and have been scouting the mediterranean since the 1990's.

I will have to fall back on this one.

Experience over knowledge.

Contacts over qualifications.

Hierro was Penalty and Free Kick taker for Spain & his career has finished.

Fernando Torres still has 5 years left of international football.

Did any of them score the winner to win Spain a cup?

Torres was world class. Might have not been for long, but he was top 5 at one point.
