Rogue trader Kweku Adoboli denies £1.5bn UBS fraud

Former City worker Kweku Adoboli has denied unauthorised trading that cost Swiss banking giant UBS £1.5 billion in what is alleged to be Britain's worst case of financial fraud.

The 31-year-old, from Clark Street, east London, entered not guilty pleas on two counts of fraud and two counts of false accounting on Monday.

Mr Adoboli is accused of losing £1.5 billion while working for UBS's global synthetic equities division between October 2008 and September 2011, buying and selling exchange traded funds, which track different types of stocks, bonds or commodities such as metals.

Prosecutors allege he dishonestly used his position to make a personal gain and expose UBS to losses after failing to place hedge bets to cover the risk of his investments.
