Loads of American music writers on Twitter trying to claim grime is evolved from American rap now it's popping.

Might write an article on it.

They weren't saying this 10 years ago, wankers

Its true though.

No its not.

Soundsystem Culture + Rave = Jungle > Garage > Grime

Sonically hip hop had no influence, and if you want to talk MCs then that influence came from ragga and naturally progressed. Then you can maybe factor in hip hop lyricism influence once the sound was established.

Wrong cause Jamaican music comes from American blues as well,

The fact that Grime artists rap tells you all you need to know about the direct influence, all modern music goes back to Black Americans, mostly this is a fact including soundsytem culture.

Ragga itself comes from where?

All these genres came from American Black music, Garage, Grime, Reggae, Jungle  all leads back to the same source, so those arguing Grime comes out of Us rap amongst other things are right.

Its Pure Nonsense, totally different paths because mcing & rapping developed from toasting,

It didnt go Toasting > Rapping/Hiphop > Rapping On Jungle Beats  it went Toasting > Toasting On Jungle > MCin on Jungle.

wasn't a single path, but So Solid popularised proper rapping on garage beats, a lot of grime heads took from that, but a lot took from garage MCing

Without UKG there would be no grime. Sure if you count back decades and decades ago it all stemmed from black American rhythm & blues, but grime is not an offshoot of Rap.

Toasting itself comes from where?

There really isn't anything to argue thing this is a fact.

The problem is you try to give the credit for Uk black music to Jamaica partly when Jamaica itself took mostly everything from American Black music, so in this sense if Jamaica in a music way is our father, then the american black music would be our grandfather.

Even Afrobeats(not hi life, juju) owe its existence to American blues

Its as much an offshoot of rap, as anything else thats for sure.

Without US garage there would be no UK Garage, theres direct influence in whatever way you want to break it down, nothing wrong with admitting it, Jamaicans who we accredit everything to took it from there as well.

That's what I said if you go back enough, it all links back to American music and a common ancestor but that doesn't make it an offshoot of hiphop though.

If hiphop didn't happen you can argue grime would still be here in some form. lyrically it would not have evolved much from simple garage lyrics though.

Difference between taking influence and being a direct offshoot.

Trap, crunk, g-funk, hyphy, boom bap are direct sub genres of hiphop, grime may be similar but it arrived via a very different route.

So what you are saying is it didnt come from hip hop then. Cool we agree.

We dont even need to even go back that far because everything becomes so far removed once it develops. Jungle then Garage is the direct influence and that really isnt a debate.
