Just started a new role in a bank last week.

Yo, my manager is going to lengths for me for I don't even know what reason. Told me last week he's going to set up meet and greets for me with the senior leadership team - there's me thinking a couple of senior managers around me within our division. But fack, it's higher level than I thought - CTO included (!) Was meant to be spread over 4 weeks, but 7 of them booked in within one week. Overwhelmed, baffled at this opportunity, and definitely nervous.

How would any of you take advantage of these meetings? I can only call a couple family members on some guidance and advice for this on how to manage. I'd like some different perspectives tbh. Gonna collate some thoughts and questions over the weekend. My manager said he'll guide me through them but I'd like to show some prep before speaking with him. Got access to some relevant sharepoints so will digest and pull out as much info from certain docs as possible.

Have you spoken to any other colleagues and it's something they don't normally do?

1. Look them all up on LinkedIn and Google. Look at their previous jobs, read their profile, read any articles they have written or been featured in

2. Most clevel people like there ego stroked. So ask loads of questions that make them sound good

3. Ask them about the fintech bank revolution, do they believe in partnerships between these big banks and fintechs

4. You've travelled a lot irrc, use that experience to match to how your fresh perspective, and digitally enabled self can have drive change and transformation in the company

5. Take notes during the sessions, and after evaluate and approach two as a mentor, one for professional development and one for personal development

6. Set up a Google alerts for banks and your bank, get the latest big talking points

7. Talk about your 5 year plan, ask about theirs and the company

Ermmm, I will think of some more

Cheers for the advice. Meeting one of the heads of innovation so definitely will be touching on fintech partnerships and API/Open Banking with him. Will aim to listen to some podcasts and interviews this weekend. Annoyingly none of their LinkedIn profiles detail their past roles very much.

Two of the females I'm meeting are heads of divisions that are male dominated so I'm sure there's talking points on this. My manager said it was fine to draw on that.

In regards to the CTO, my manager's advice was 'don't come across too cheesy but don't be too overly assertive. He will challenge you so don't allude to the fact that you're new or that you have gaps in your knowledge - drive the conversation upwards. It should be 75% him talking, 25% you.

Going to spend most of my weekend shaping the right questions. I think based on personalities, all are manageable apart from CTO. Apparently some people don't get him and his language.

So i have a little blog which showcases some of my work. I got contacted by the alleged copyright holder of one of the stock images on the site and claims it was credited incorrectly.

I immediately took the image down but now this fool talking about paying £300 compensation otherwise he'll take me to court for infringement.

Obviously I'm not gonna pay and think they are bluffing about taking a minor website to court. But if they did decide to go down that route, anyone have any advice on what to do or whether they even have a case?

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone got any tips on looking for permanent jobs abroad?

I have pretty much had enough of this country and with how hard it is to get on the housing ladder and just the general living costs of London that would go along with it alongside the quality of life I've decided to set my sights abroad.

Currently doing my CIMA so when I qualify and have decent experience under my belt I'm looking to emigrate with the missus.

For those that got jobs abroad did you just go through normal recruitment agencies or are there specialised ones for overseas jobs?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
