International Citizen Service (ICS)

Recommended Posts

Are you 18-25 years old?

Do you want to make a real difference in some ofthe world's poorest communities?

If the answer to those two questions is YES then International Citizen Service (ICS) could be for you.

ICS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to work as a volunteer on a development programme overseas. Funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and run by some of the most respected organisations fighting poverty through volunteering, ICS is the UK's foremost global volunteer programme for young people.

As an ICS volunteer you will spend a life-changing 10-12 weeks working directly alongside local volunteers on projects that have been specifically chosen to ensure that the energies and skills young people bring can make a direct impact on poorer communities. When your work placement is finished, ICS will help you to use your experience to make a positive difference at home.

To be an ICS volunteer you do not need particular qualifications or skills. All you need is to be 18-25 years old and motivated to make a difference in the world. We are open to applications to be a volunteer (18-25 years old) as well as for a small number of voluntary team leader roles (aged 23 and over).

If you're passionate about making a real difference in the world – apply now!

International work placements are planned to start from July 2012.

ICS is led by VSO, in partnership with Restless Development, International Service, Raleigh International, Tearfund and Progressio

Huge variety in countries which you could go to.

Including: India, Peru, Nepal, Ghana, and many more.

It's all free. If you go as a team member, you're asked to try and raise some money from your local community to cover costs but don't be put off. They really help you out with everything and no-one is refused a place due to financial reasons.

stop waffling mate, your jibberish makes no sense

this is actually a good scheme

aimed at people that would not normally be able to afford to take a gap year and travel, and giving them that opportunity

you also gain practical, useful skills in the assessing and implementing strategies for effective provisions of clean water in very remote villages for example

its a stupid scheme.

those poor communities dont need f*ck*ng lazy british twats with a superior complex

to bring them biscuits and a shovel to help them dig a well

a community thats poor bcos of western govt policies

those 18-25 yr olds should learn about how the world economy works today and aim to change it

thats how they can "help poorer communities" (of which they are a part of...)

whats wrong with them going even if theyre rich?

so cause some system f*cked up a country the individual people who had nothing to do with it and have no way out should continue suffering when there are people willing to give their time to help them? a little help, but at least its something

seems like you have the complex

I agree with some of this but it doesn't make sense within this context

the help provided is very much welcomed and needed

you join up with a group of local (from the same country) young volunteers and together you aim to help those in need within those communities

it's something

I would also love for Newham to start breeding budding economists with innovative ideas and world changing plans, but come on mate..

anyway they arent even poor.

people whos parents probably owe more than the whole village they're going to help are being told they are poor

so they keep on relying on whitey to offer them tokenistic self reliance

the richest country in the world is the most indebted country in the world and the UK owes more than all of africa does

but they are told they are poor.

go register and get your certificate of good will
