Is Ableton live good for making beats? I've got Reason but completely forgot how to make different bars on the sequencer.

Is Ableton live good for making beats? I've got Reason but completely forgot how to make different bars on the sequencer.

It's whatever you lot are comfortable with. The DAW is only the tool you use to carve your ideas out, it's about finding one that allows you to express yourself quickly, which itself depends on your workflow.

Some people hate working 'in the box', preferring outboard MIDI controllers like MPCs, the NI Maschine, etc.

Ableton leans towards people like that, it allows you to assign loops or live clips that can be triggered/edited by outboard stuff. Logic, Reason etc all have the ability to be controlled by physical controllers, but not necessarily as easily.

Ableton + the Maschine = on the fly control of effects, EQs, automation, samples and loops. It's more of a DJ/production hybrid.
