He made his debut in 1997 under Glen Hoddle and initially in his first few games played as a Second Striker in the hole a position he excelled in and enjoyed. Then when the 1998 World Cup came Hoddle played him as a play maker in a free role in a 3-4-1-2 playing him behind the 2 strikers as a play maker a position he enjoyed alot and was a beast at. Then from 1999 after the world cup and when Kevin Kegan took over he played as a box to box attacking central midfielder in a 4-4-2 in Euro 2000 alongside a defensive central midfielder (Paul Snake Hunter HD). Then when Sven took over he continued to play in this position he enjoyed and excelled in after Euro 2000 and in the 2002 World Cup also played in this attacking cental midfield position once again alonside a defensive midfielder (Nicky Butt) It was only in Euro 2004 Sven then moved him to the left so he played on the left for just 1 tournament and to be fair he hadn't scored a goal for 3 years as a Central Midfielder. So from 1997 - 2004 Scholes basically played as an attacking central midfielder mostly and a play maker in the 98 world cup. Just Euro 2004 he was on teft basically just 4 games since they got knocked out quarter final.

1997 - Second Striker behind Ian Wright

World Cup 1998 - Play Maker/Free Role behind Shearer & Owen or Sheringham

1999 - 2004 Atacking Box to Box Central Midfielder alongside either Ince/Gerrard/Butt

Euro 2004 - Left Midfield

Beckham is the 1 who played outta position almost all his career on the right obviously a position he was world class in cos of his crossing but it's no secret Becks always prefered and wanted to play as a Attacking Central Midfielder. Aside from 1998 World Cup where he played as a Centrel Midfielder he spent the the rest of his career on the right.
