sitting down is deffo a female thing cos they need to wipe their naans after they piss so it dont drip when they stand.

Maybe its more of a girl thing but I've never heard of standing, as smaddy said a slight raise but your then exposed to clean the whole area. If you stand up your butt cheeks are closed and access is limited.
