I defaulted on a natwest student overdraft and cc, ignored it while broke then paid it off in full out of the blue and explained why I defaulted in the first place. Checked my credit a few years later after the default date and it was nowhere to be seen on any of the reports. I didnt write to them, I didnt even tell them I wanted it removed, just told them I moved around a lot, pleaded ignorance as a student, and was now trying to fix my credit.

 

Obviously Natwest bank and Wonga are very different beasts though.
