House Bangers: What do you listen for....

quick question guys (i'ma delete this topic shortly) just wanted to know:

What's important to you when you hear a new house tune (doesn't matter what type of house)

is it the beat? or the vocals (if any) ?  Do you as a listener care about lyrics? Is it the drop etc...

/

Sorry for this stream of conscious topic this is for my own songwriter/vocalist reasons, all answers opinions on a postcard please....

Thanks

Couldn't really narrow it down tbh.

The groove in a track gets me most of the time.

Oh wait did you only mean instrumental or vocals.

I usually get hooked by some powerful female vocals,

Like Detroit Swindle - Guess What

or Dub Syndicate Productions - No Longer

But I happen to love the instrumentation on these tracks also

I meant what do you check for when listening to a house tune, what grabs you first off. Is it the beat or the vocals? Do you care what the vocalist is singing about?

Personally for me the beat has to be on point, then a nice vocal should be a good addidtion.

A beat should be able to stand alone and still have a nice vibe.

I hear you ^^

For me the ingredients of a good house track are Rhythm, Funk, Feeling & Groove whether that was 80s, 90s or now. A vocal or vocal snippets should compliment that. A vocal no matter how good dosent work if the track is weak or badly produced.

Unfortunatley too many producers are unable to understand what makes a lasting house track hence the amount of weak tracks whether under prodced, over produced or lacking groove. Making house tracks is easy not so easy to make good lasting ones..

Similary the amount of so called DJs who do not understand house (mainly due to lack of research but also due to lack of taste)  is quite laughable..jumping from one bandwagon to another

All IMO opinion of course..

Don't give a shit about the beat as it's usually always 4x4, right?

Groove is important to me (interesting hi-hats and percussion).

I like nice chords, and Moogy/303 type basslines.

Sucker for vocals, although I take a 'less is more' approach with them.

Short vocals with nuff effects and delays >> Full verse/chorus type song
