Microsoft: no third party Xbox One headsets until 2014

The Xbox One may come with its own beefed up audio accessories, but audiophiles waiting on Turtle Beach's XO Ear Force headsets will have to wait: Microsoft won't support them until 2014. According to a statement confirmed by Microsoft, the Xbox One Headset Adapter that enables the use of third party audio accessories will ship early next year, leaving early adopters to make due with the official pack-ins. Redmond says it'll use the spare time to help manufactures "create new headsets that will take full advantage of the Xbox One technology," also noting that the console's included headset is free, after all.

Need For Speed Rivals will feature better graphics on one next-gen console than the other, Ghost Games’ executive producer Marcus Nilsson has suggested – but refused to clarify which.

“What we’re seeing with the consoles are actually that they are a little bit more powerful than we thought for a really long time – especially one of them, but I’m not going to tell you which one," Nilsson told VideoGamer.com at Gamescom earlier today.

“And that makes me really happy. But in reality, I think we’re going to have both those consoles pretty much on parity – maybe one sticking up a little bit. And I think that one will look as good as the PC.”

Nilsson chose not to answer when asked whether he was referring to the PS4 version.

Pushing him on the subject further, I asked: “Does that mean that the PS4 version of Rivals will look better than the Xbox One version?”

“I think that both consoles will look pretty much on parity,” he replied, “but one of them might stick up a little bit.”

Though the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One share similar specifications, PS4 features faster GDDR5 memory over Xbox One’s DDR3.

Nilsson’s comments suggest that third-party developers may be looking to take advantage of the additional power of PS4, rather than deliver identical versions across both platforms.

PS4 won’t support Bluetooth or USB headsets at launch but “eventually will”

PlayStation-4_2013_07-23-13_007-610x400.

First up, you get a free headset with the PS4 that works just fine so no pouting. However, it does appear PS4 won’t support Bluetooth or USB headsets at launch. It will eventually, but there’s an unspecified window on the timing from Sony.

PS4 won’t support Bluetooth or USB headsets at launch

Word from various Sony reps is that support for other headsets will arrive after launch but there’s no date as yet. It sounds like it might be something to do with the mic judging from the tweet below. Most likely the first firmware update is going to be a doozy with PS4 HDMI capture also promised at some point once the machine’s out.
