im aware of adam curtis' work and his thoughts on the power of nightmares etc and agree with them to an extent

that doesn't mean that we're MORE trapped in a prop machine than NK are tho

our propaganda is nothing in comparison to theirs though

No, actually, theirs is nothing compared to ours. It's not as developed, it's more detectable, it's less believable.

I will say no more.

our propaganda is nothing in comparison to theirs though

Are you nuts, ours isn't half as see-through, we are just as culturally conditioned. And we can do just about as much to change it as they can.

Our propaganda keeps South Koreans in conscription ready to fight at all times.

you think the people of NK think it's see through? they don't just see the deifying of the Kim family and go 'yeah yeah lol alright br0s' they actually love these politicians in a big way

NK has one of the most literate populations on earth, near enough 99% literacy rate, and all they're reading is sh*t about how destructive the west it, some truths but some are just bizarre fabrications

the freedom of information on the internet allows us to research and denounce any false claims made on other wordly nations, NK does not have that

Mate, we live in a society where it's acceptable to be in the 'PR industry' - there is no difference between Public Relations and Propaganda except the emotional

weight of the latter term.

Come like you can't see the forest because of the North Korean trees.

Just because we have the freedom to research the 'truth', doesn't mean we can hold that truth up to Power and say 'here, change the system'.

The information age has led to lonely individuals, resentful of the world they've researched, shooting up educational establishments. Can you not see the irony?

in which nation on planet earth can a body of citizens hold a 'truth' up to an established power and demand that the system is changed on the back of it? that seems a naively utopian viewpoint

people who shoot up schools dont do it because they're tired of the propaganda machine, they do it cuz they're mentally unhinged psychopaths with delusional motives/ history of abuse or mental issues

PR is a sales technique, you have a product and it needs to be promoted to the relevant parties, whether that's a song or burger or a celebrity or a politician

just because we cannot change states which are clearly wrong, governmental or otherwise, does not mean that the propaganda behind it is more powerful or frightening than that of a totalitarian state of impoverished fearful citizens ruled by a cult of personality

i dont see how the comparison can be made

Or is that just what the propaganda would have us believe ?

/

With regards to NK, I think its all a bit tense.

And then someone bombs the boston marathon finish line. After the west hasn't been the victim of a widely reported terrorist attack in how long ?

Smells fucking awful to me

Not really worth a new topic so thought i'd just put this in here.

North Korea has executed its defence chief on treason charges, Seoul’s National Intelligence Service was quoted as telling lawmakers, in the latest of a series of high-level purges since Kim Jong Un took power after his father’s death in 2011.

Hyon Yong Chol, who heads the isolated country’s military, was purged and then executed by firing squad with an antiaircraft gun, watched by hundreds of people, South Korean media reported on Wednesday, citing the NIS’s comments to a parliamentary panel.

Hyon, who spoke at a security conference in Moscow in April, was said to have shown disrespect to Kim by dozing off at a military event, media said, citing the agency briefing.

The execution comes after South Korea’s spy agency said late last month that Kim ordered the execution of 15 senior officials this year as punishment for challenging his authority.

“North Korean internal politics is very volatile these days,” said Michael Madden, an expert on the North Korean leadership and contributor to the 38 North think tank.

“Internally, there does not seem to be any respect for Kim Jong Un within the core and middle levels of the North Korean leadership,” he added.

“There is no clear or present danger to Kim Jong Un’s leadership or stability in North Korea, but if this continues to happen into next year, then we would seriously have to start looking at a contingency plan for the Korean peninsula”.

In 2013, Kim purged and executed his uncle, Jang Song Thaek, once considered the second most powerful man in Pyongyang’s leadership circle, for corruption and committing crimes damaging to the economy, along with a group of officials close to him.

Pyongyang’s military leadership has been in a state of perpetual reshuffle since Kim took power.

Hyon, a little-known general, was promoted to the rank of vice marshal of the North Korean army in 2012.

The South Korean spy agency told lawmakers that Ma Won Chun, known as North Korea’s chief architect of new infrastructure under Kim, was also purged, local media reported.

Apparently he got blasted with one of these

Basically they've got a fresh trim but no way to get to the rave.

I was just about to chastise you for basically jacking the top line from some media outlet, but the second line wins. Man gave you that hallowed 10th rep point.

Now go forth, and multiply.
