Former Everton winger Royston Drenthe has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons as a video which allegedly shows him drinking beer while driving his Ferrari at high speeds has emerged.

The Dutchman, who had a season-long loan spell at Goodison Park for the 2011/2012 campaign, is shown chasing another high end car on a busy road.

Music blasts out and his friend laughs throughout the footage, which alternates between filming the chase and gauging Drenthe's reaction

Confusion reigns over when and where the video was produced, but it was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday and a number of Spanish media organisations have published the footage.

Alcante newspaper, La Informacion, reported this is not the first time Drenthe, who spent the 2010/11 season on loan with local side Hercules, has been caught misbehaving on the road

It states: 'It's worth remembering that in Alicante he was stopped and sanctioned for skipping seven red traffic lights in Denia Avenue as he went at 160kmh.'

Drenthe secured a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2007 when he was just 20 after starring for Dutch side Feyenoord in his early career.

Big move: Royston Drenthe signed for Real Madrid in 2007

He spent three years at the Bernabeu but never really settled and was loaned out to Hercules and then ended up in the Premier League with Everton.

The controversial player made 27 appearances and scored four goals in his spell at Goodison Park but Toffees boss David Moyes let him leave after losing patience due to the midfielder constantly being late for training.

Real Madrid did not offer him a new deal and his contract expired last summer.

Goodison spell: Royston Drenthe was on loan at Everton for the 2011/12 season

He signed for Russian strugglers Alania Vladikavkaz in January, but struggled to get into the team - only making four appearances up until the weekend.

However, at the weekend he finally opened his account with a hat-trick to help Alania beat Mordoviya 3-1, their first league win since August, so things could be on the up for him.
