Liverpool have made a £21m offer for Atletico Madrid's Brazilian striker Diego Costa.

The offer is believed to have triggered the 24-year-old's release clause and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of completing the deal swiftly.

Costa who joined Atletico from Valladolid in 2010, scored 10 goals in the Primera Liga last season.

The striker made his international debut in March this year and Liverpool are awaiting a response from Atletico.

Liverpool is spending big as well

Why you man wacthing stats so hard?

Big signing if partnered with a goal scorer...had a sick partnership with falcao

Can be used as a target man or second striker....would work great with suarez

Truss

Clueless fans look at stats to determine a player's quality

Diego Costa is quality

Two footed

Quick

Strong

Dribbling skills

Teamwork

Work Rate

Looks like a pitbull

Finishing can let him down sometimes

Plays on the edge so will pick up a lot of cards

A ticking time bomb

Would love him to be back up for Fred next summer but it's too risky

Arsenal/Tottenham/City/Chelsea have missed a trick here if Liverpool sign him which would be backwards move

Atletico are better than Liverpool

I also believe Tottenham are a selling club, their history would suggest that. You go back to Michael Carrick, Modric and Berbatov - they do tend to sell."

Jamie Redknapp

yeh, coz Xabi Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, etc, all left by mutual termination :/

guy needs to STFU and GTFOH

Spurs are gona be minted wonder who they will buy

Nobody lol

Stadium money

Will vanish like the Ronaldo money

yep, and since the money's "vanished", they will depend on free transfers such as van Persie, Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Kagawa, Zaha and de Gea since they won't have money to buy players :/

now if that's just to sell shirts, and he won't play, that's fair enough

but otherwise, man's come from out of nowhere and will be playing in the championship (they did get promoted, right?)

Sky Sports understands Southampton could miss out on around £11million if Gareth Bale is sold to Real Madrid.

When they sold Bale to Tottenham in 2007, they inserted a sell-on clause believed to be 15% of any future transfer fee.

However, when they found themselves in financial difficulty, Southampton waived that clause and agreed to receive around £1.5million plus Spurs youth keeper Tommy Forecast.

Forecast never made an appearance for Southampton and is currently without a club.

Saints can still expect a small percentage of a Bale sale to cover training costs - that figure is thought to be around two and a half per cent.

However, a potential sale that could have netted Southampton £13million will instead only yield around £2million.
