We are delighted to announce the signing of Wales international full-back Gareth Bale from Southampton. The Cardiff-born defender, who turns 18 in July, made his debut against Millwall towards the end of the 2005-06 campaign. He went on to be capped at Under-21 level before becoming the youngest ever Wales international when he came off the bench against Trinidad and Tobago last summer. His first start came at White Hart Lane in September 2006 when Brazil provided the opposition and a first international goal quickly followed against Slovakia in a European Championship qualifier ââ¬â making him the countryââ¬â¢s youngest goalscorer. The left back currently has six caps and two goals to his name. Gareth made 45 appearances for Southampton, scoring five goals. "I am just excited to be coming to a big club, a massive club like Tottenham," reacted Gareth on joining. "I want to play in the Premiership, Tottenham is a club pushing forward and I want to be part of its future. Sporting Director Damien Comolli added: "We have been following Gareth for a long time now and have been very tenacious, so we are absolutely delighted to get him here. He is a player of great quality and, as we always say, our aim in each window is to improve the quality of the squad. "Gareth has great physical attributes, he is tall, good in the air and has a fantastic left foot. He is very good on set pieces, he is clever on the ball and his passing selection is excellent. "He has the ideal combination to become a top, top player and he is only 17."

Benfica confirm Zoro capture MarcZoro20070522.jpgDefender signs four-year contract Benfica have confirmed another signing for next season after acquiring central defender, Marco Zoro. The Ivory Coast international arrives at the club on a Bosman free transfer from Italian club Messina, as he was out of a contract at the end of this season. The signing was confirmed by club president, Luis Filipe Vieira, at an opening of a Casa do Benfica at Vila Mea on the weekend. The 23-year-old is Benficaââ¬â¢s second signing for next season after Portuguese Under-20 striker, Fabio Coentrao. The central defender, who can also deputise as a right-back, has signed to stay with Benfica for the next four years. The acquisition will boost the defensive cover in the squad which only contained three central defenders and one right-back for most of the season.

Liverpool have moved swiftly to bolster their reserve ranks by agreeing deals to sign Hungarian pair Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon from MTK Hungaria. Nemeth, 18, and Simon, 17, appeared for Hungary in last year's UEFA Under-17 Championships. The duo are both strikers, although Nemeth also plays in midfield.

Liverpool have added another young prospect to their ranks in the shape of Swedish teenager Alexander Kacaniklic. The midfielder first impressed during a 12-day trial at Anfield in February, before shining again in April, and has now signed a three-year contract to move to England. Explaining his decision to leave Helsingborgs, the 15-year-old expressed his belief that his career will be better served on Merseyside. "It's at this age you develop the most and the conditions are much better at Liverpool," Kacaniklic told Helsingborgs Dagblad. Rafa Benitez is currently plotting an overhaul of his first team squad, and the acquisition of the young midfielder is another step in his side project to freshen up his reserve options.
