Brown Basmati

lol @ Basmati being expensive, its all relative - take out rice from your meals and how much are you actually saving per meal?

also if you're getting store-brand, its like maybe 20p more expensive than easy cook, its only when you decide to cop Tilda that it makes a difference

one cup of basmati rice to two cups of water

salt, 4 or 5 bay leaves

bring to the boil, lower to a simmer, put lid on, come back 15 mins later, will just look like a pot of rice casual no water, with a spoon, move some of the rice to one side to check there's no water still kicking about the bottom of the pan, stir with a fork to fluff up, lid back on, remove from heat, leave to stand for a few more minutes whilst you get the rest of the grub together

at the stage of heat removal i like to throw a load of frozen peas in to the rice. they'll defrost very quickly

this whole boil and drain thing is for amateurs tbh

Butter in the saucepan, dash in some cumin seeds and 2 clove and some chopped onion, cardamon optional.

dash in the rice for a min and stir, add boiling water, then add frozen peas just before the rice is done.

My fav.
