Your witnessing WW3 in action

"Russia plans to increase air defences in Syria after a US missile strike on a government-controlled airfield, saying the military action had made the risk of conflict “significantly higher”.

In a statement, the Russian Defence Ministry said it would be beefing up its ability to shoot down enemy warplanes in the wake of strike.

It also mocked the effectiveness of the attack, saying just 23 of the 59 tomahawk cruise missiles had hit their target.

Russia has said it will treat US warplanes operating in parts of Syria where its air forces are also present as “targets” amid a diplomatic row caused by the downing of a Syrian jet.

The country’s defence ministry said it would track US-led coalition aircraft with missile systems and military aircraft, but stopped short of saying it would shoot them down.

A hotline set

“All kinds of airborne vehicles, including aircraft and UAVs of the international coalition detected to the west of the Euphrates River will be tracked by the Russian SAM systems as air targets,” the Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The warning comes after a US F-18 Super Hornet shot down a Syrian army SU-22 jet on Sunday in the countryside southwest of Raqqa – the first such downing of a Syrian jet by the US since the start of the country’s civil war in 2011.

Washington said the jet had dropped bombs near US-backed forces but Damascus said the plane was downed while flying a mission against Isis militants.

Russia’s defence ministry said the suspension of its communication line with the Americans would begin immediately.

The US did not use its hotline with Russia ahead of the downing of the Syrian government warplane, said the ministry, which accused the US of a “deliberate failure to make good on its commitments” under the deconfliction deal.

“The shooting down of a Syrian Air Force jet in Syria’s airspace is a cynical violation of Syria’s sovereignty,” the ministry said.

“The US’ repeated combat operations under the guise of ‘combating terrorism’ against the legitimate armed forces of a UN member-country are a flagrant violation of international law and an actual military aggression against the Syrian Arab Republic.”

Theresa May appealed to Russia to continue the use of “deconfliction” measures over the skies of Syria to reduce the risk of misunderstandings in what is a crowded airspace.

Russia, which has been providing air cover for Syria’s President, Bashar al-Assad, since 2015, has an agreement with the US aimed at preventing incidents involving either country’s warplanes engaged in operations in Syria.

Downing the jet was akin to “helping the terrorists that the US is fighting against”, Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, said.

A statement released by US Central Command on Sunday said the Syrian jet was “immediately shot down... in accordance with rules of engagement and in collective self-defence of Coalition partnered forces”.

“The Coalition’s mission is to defeat Isis in Iraq and Syria. The Coalition does not seek to fight Syrian regime, Russian, or pro-regime forces partnered with them, but will not hesitate to defend Coalition or partner forces from any threat,” it added.

“The Coalition presence in Syria addresses the imminent threat Isis in Syria poses globally. The demonstrated hostile intent and actions of pro-regime forces toward Coalition and partner forces in Syria conducting legitimate counter-Isis operations will not be tolerated.”

Anyone still following this war?

if there is a ww3 in our lifetimes it starts here.

So many major nations fighting against each other and teaming up with countries they are fighting against to attack the other countries to stop them progressing like some royal rumble

Major Players: Russia, Syria, Israel, Turkey, USA, Iran and Hezbollah.

Minor Players/Proxies: Various Free Syrian Army Rebels, Al Qaeda, SDF in various groups including YPG/PKK, ISIS, Iraq, Saudis, Qatar and Coalition Forces.

Russia are currently winning as they sided with the Syrian state (who have control over majority of the country now after defeating isis)and therefore have the crucial airspace, USA look like they backed the wrong horse(kurds) and are set to lose a lot but can still salvage something as no one(actual states) would dare hit us soldiers, USAs biggest loss could be Turkey a long term ally who have started an assult over the border and is taking kurdish territory which US was planning to make its base in the middle east... Israel were the silent backers of maybe ISIS but defiantly certain jihadi groups and not happy with the way syria were moving (picking up wins) started to get involved more directly leading to a jet of theirs being shot down and giving the whole middle east a massive morale boost as their invincibility against arab nations took a knock... however expect them to follow turkey and mount an invasion across the border but a lot stronger with their eye firmly on Iran and Hezbollah as Russia wont let them touch Syrian Army...

its all mad alliances change daily as everyone tries to assert control and win territory.

maddest thing i read recently is syrian army bussed(like mini busses) isis fighters from one town in which they were fighting a losing battle vs the syrian army to the front line of the syrian army/al qaeda battle to fight against them

gnna be a mad summer

PKK/YPG are minor players?

Turkey tried defeat them with ISIS but they couldn't, now they are using the FSA to try and defeat them and take Afrin, it's not going to happen.

Can smell WW3 coming too, if Turkey hit American soldiers or vice versa, it's gonna get peak.

Pretty sure Erdogan will get done for war crimes after all this is over anyway and America will give him the same fate as Gadaffi and Saddam.

bro

WW3 has been active for years

Wars are no longer fought on the front line or by dropping nukes

modern warfare is all about proxy wars and control of information

no previously the battle lines were very clear

USA/NATO vs Russia via proxies trying to insert their man in charge of a country

this war has muddied the waters, especially since isis has been defeated and is just used by all parties as cannon fodder on the front lines and i mean ALL parties work with them. So there is no "bad guy" now.

Still only a civil war as its on one country but that could change very easily, as its in a precarious place

Yes, they have no air force...fought well and took a lot of ground off of ISIS but that was using US Airforce... the battles in this war have all been won in the air last couple years.

No this is false, Turkey has worked with al-qaeda, iraqi kurdistan(KRG) and fsa and they never publicly worked with ISIS(only black market deals which all parties do) also they fought isis and lost men.

In December 2016, al-Bab came under an

attack by Syrian rebels backed by Turkey. Turkish air strikes on December 21 destroyed 67 Islamic State targets; 14 Turkish soldiers and 138 rebels were reported killed

They will take afrin as they have it surrounded unless a deal is done by ypg and assad or US steps in(which they wont).

Erdogan is a wasteman who has tried to bully cypriots for time first saying we are not turkish enough and now saying we are not muslim enough but if i was kurdish i would 100% want him to stay.... because every other option is worse... he is an islamist not nationalist unlike the other main parties in turkey....

Turkey's PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced major political reforms, including new Kurdish rights and a reversal of the headscarf ban.

He has proposed lowering the 10% electoral threshold, which currently prevents Kurdish and other smaller parties from entering parliament.

He says towns will be able to use their Kurdish rather than Turkish names, and education in Kurdish will be broadened.

The reforms are a long-awaited move to improve the rights of Turkey's Kurds, who are thought to make up about 20% of the population.

They are seen as a vital part of efforts to end the three-decade conflict between the government and Kurdish rebels, which has cost more than 40,000 lives.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) armed rebel group recently suspended its withdrawal from Turkey, which was a measure agreed with the government, because of a perceived failure by the government to make political concessions to the Kurds.

Mr Erdogan said the law under which only parties which get 10% of the national vote can take up parliamentary seats could be replaced by a 5% threshold, or even abolished completely.

The law has in the past prevented the main Kurdish party, Peace and Democracy (BDP), from campaigning for parliament - though its members have often run as independents and clubbed together as MPs.

Parties would only have to win 3% to qualify for public funding - as opposed to 7% currently.

Mr Erdogan also said teaching in Kurdish - and other non-Turkish languages - will be allowed in private schools;

nd he said towns would be allowed officially to take their native-language names. This is thought likely to lead to the Turkish-named city of Tunceli being given its Kurdish name, Dersim.

Other measures in the "democratisation package" included:

A nationalist oath recited by students at schools will be removed

An anti-discrimination commission will be established to combat hate crimes

erdogan won most if not all of his elections because kurdish people (25+%) voted for him but now you guys have HDP which is because of him.... one of the main rumours for the coup was because the army wanted to go full on attack and wernt happy with how he was treating (well in their opinion) kurds and they wanted a full on attack in south east turkey and syria

if chp or mhp ever won they would try ethnic cleansing

@Admin.

Bro there were many times ISIS fighters were captured with Turkish soldiers smiling/chilling. They were partly funded by Turkey, most ISIS fighters got a pass through Turkey into Syria/Iraq, it has been widely reported. Plus there were many Turks within ISIS.

I wish I had the time to research right now but the evidence is out there. Erdogans a prick, remember the time Turkey had a "coup" he blamed Fetullah Gulen, who he was friends with back in the day and supported his movement, when he falls out with someone he labels them a traitor and the sheep public follow. All the media are pro Erdogan, what they publicise the public believe.

He has jailed politicans, academics, journalists just because they criticise him. He has jailed HDP members, he wants to finish everyone off, whoever doesnt support him faces jail.

I agree with you he has won with support of some Kurdish populated cities but how does he win them over? He supplies them with coal, pasta, rice just to win votes.

He is turning Turkey into a mess, the sooner he is gone the sooner everyone can live peacefully Kurds, Turks, Cypriots etc.

Scores of Russian mercenaries reportedly killed by US airstrikes in Syria

Scores of Russian mercenaries were reportedly killed when US forces carried out air strikes against a pro-regime force in eastern Syria last week, according to US and Russian reports.

If the high estimates of Russian casualties are confirmed, it would be the most lethal clash between US and Russian citizens since the end of the cold war, and it comes at a time when proxy forces in Syria are increasingly coming into contact, as they compete for territory vacated by retreating Islamic State militants.

Bloomberg News quoted Russian sources as saying as many as 200 Russian nationals could have been killed in a clash last Wednesday and Thursday around the oil fields of Deir Ezzor region between forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad and a Kurdish-led opposition force supported by US advisers.

The New York Times said that Russian and Syrian officials had estimated that dozens of Russians had been killed.

US Central Command said on Tuesday that US forces came under fire from a tank, and that they responded with three hours of intense strikes from drones and B-52 bombers against the attackers, which it described as a unit of 300 to 500 fighters.

Air force Lieutenant General Jeffrey Harrigan said US advisers had been in an operating base alongside units the mostly-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the course of anti-Isis operations, when they came under tank fire. He added that the senior officer at the base called in airstrikes in response.

Harrigan said the attacking forces were fighting on the side of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, but said he would “not speculate on the composition of this force, or whose control they were under”.

He said: “This is a hostile force that was coming after our partners and coalition advisers so we are going to defend ourselves.”
