I wouldn't go so far as to say every child has to have experienced trick or treating and if they didn't they had a deprived childhood etc.

 

But why would you say no when your kid asks to go. Why spoil it for them by telling them it's begging. It's few hours of fun with their friends, and you can just get their parents to take yours.

 

I know everyone isn't on fancy dress at this age, but as a kid it's nothing.

I did it but it was unsupervised. But I wouldn't let my kids do it alone though

An old school friend of mine who had a sign on his door saying 'if you trick or treat here youll get a free bible lesson' had some kids bang on his door last night and shout theyre gonna rape his wife...to which he went out there with a meat cleaver lol.  Bit extreme but it mustve worked because they came back later to apologise.
